Such an important piece of funding and with the closure of NCS - National Citizen Service Trust it now is one of the few funded opportunities that remains for community organisations who face so many barriers to accessing the outdoors and providing residential experiences. The Adventures Away from Home fund closes tomorrow and it’s really important that communities who face barriers are at the forefront of these schemes. We had such a huge response to sharing this opportunity with our network. In less than a day we had over 1400 young people from some of the most underserved, underfunded and overlooked communities. Many of these organisations/ young people have never been away from home and this funding would be truly transformative. Now more than ever there is a need for this type of funding to go beyond the same old faces / organisations. It’s about creating real impactful change not ticking a box and providing funding to groups / organisations who already have significant exposure to the outdoors.

Nonprofit hospitals are raking in massive profits, owning for-profit businesses and international ventures while keeping their tax-exempt status. Martin Gaynor, E.J. Barone University Professor of Economics and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University, points out in a recent article from The Washington Post that these hospitals operate more like big businesses than charities, with complex financial setups and high executive pay.
