This is really sad, why would Logan City Council and Mayor Jon Raven lock shower facilities? There can only be one reason. City councils profess to help the homeless by not moving them on from parks. They tell all they empathise with the homeless. The reality is they want them gone and by removing access to public facilities are trying to drive them away. Shame on you Logan City Council. I see Chris most weeks on my Orange Sky Australia morning shift. Like many others sleeping rough, by choice or not, he depends on public ablutions being available 24/7. What right have do councils and corporations have to restrict this access? This isn't the only example of denied access to public ablutions. Queensland Rail locks toilets on unmanned stations. Do QR employees monitor the use of toilets? Are we saying people can't use public facilities unless supervised? Last year Adrian Schrinner made the call that he realised those sleeping rough had nowhere else to go. Its time all councils accepted this reality and support those living rough by not moving them on and providing access to public facilities. Its common dignity for people to have access to showers and toilets. There is an outstanding organisation, Share the Dignity, providing female sanitary product vending machines to communities. I think it's time councils proved their worth and locate these vending machines at all public ablutions. Again some services shouldn't be dependent on controlled access or having money. As a community we should provide common dignity to all. All councils need to lift their game. 4 Voices Global Limited Rosies - Friends on the Street Merciful Servants https://lnkd.in/gWrCQDng

🆕 WATCH | During yesterday's Renters (Reform) Bill debate in Parliament, we were glad to hear the housing minister recognise the impact of some local authorities encouraging tenants to stay put when served a Section 21 notice until bailiffs arrive, rather than supporting them with a homelessness action plan as required by the Homelessness Reduction Act. 💬 Our members highlighted the negative impact for both landlords and tenants: https://lnkd.in/ecEQphpk ❓ How will the Renters (Reform) Bill affect you as a #landlord? What happens next in terms of the Bill's progression? This afternoon, we'll be joined by housing minister Jacob Young MP on an exclusive member webinar. Put your questions to the minister directly. Homelessness peak bodies accuse state gov of selling public land that should be used for building social housing Interesting to note that at no point does the article mention just how broke the Victorian government is right now. No matter how needed public housing is, it takes money to build it. And government projects generally get built at eye watering costs - much higher than private projects. I'm not sure there's an easy answer here. https://buff.ly/3AtskWs #developmentconsultant #developmentmelbourne #realestatemelbourne #propertyreimagined

DYK – Commercial properties in Phoenix impacted by unmitigated public nuisances have seen rent and property appreciation at about half the rate of the city as a whole (15.7% vs 30.2%, 2019-2023). That’s a staggering $2.1 billion in potentially lost property value due to high levels of crime, unsheltered homelessness, and public nuisances. Public safety matters for quality of life and the appeal of an area. Learn more in our recent report: https://bit.ly/47C3NLv

What do you think of tenants being advised to sit tight until the bailiffs arrive when they've been served with a Section 21 (no-fault) eviction notice? I've seen it many times. Landlords want to get their property back but tenants are being told to dig their heels in. Does this help the tenant or does it make what was a good relationship strained? Is it local governments turning a blind eye to the housing crisis? #rentersreform #bristol #housingcrisis #nrla #landlords

Truly appalling homelessness & temporary accommodation stats. We know @TrussellUK that homelessness & hunger are closely connected: 1/3 of people referred to our food banks are currently homeless or have been in the previous 12 months. We need 3 steps from government to turn back this spiral: 1. Keep LHA linked to rents. Don't freeze it again as planned by previous government. 2. Push the Renters Reform Bill through quickly & in full. 3. Build social housing. Read more about how housing, homelessness & hunger are linked, and how we fix it here: https://lnkd.in/eE3Ftp5Z Latest stats here: https://lnkd.in/e8WywAev
