The satellite industry is shifting towards smaller, more efficient satellite designs. Emerging players and established giants are embracing this transformative period by investing heavily in nimble and flexible solutions, such as small GEO satellites. Small GEO satellites are cheaper than traditional GEO satellites, providing access to new customers that might not have considered buying into GEO before. Experts expect the upcoming years to be a test period for satellite manufacturers and operators to test different satellite designs before determining the most efficient one. 🛰️ Software-Defined Satellites (#SDS) are reshaping the landscape of #STACOM but, they may not be a one-size fits all solution. 📈 Software-Defined Satellites offer one potential solution to rigidity constraints faced by current Geostationary Earth Orbit (#GEO) satellites. The adoption of #flexsats is projected to grow steadily, with 54% of satellites currently addressable by flexible payloads and platforms, expected to increase to nearly 80% by 2033; a trend driven by High Throughput Satellite (#HTS) and Very High Throughput Satellites (#VHTS). While SDSs offer benefits in #adaptability, #cost efficiency, and #market growth potential, challenges like production delays and capacity limitations exist. In some instances of more complex, high-capacity missions, partially flexible payloads may be more suitable. 🌟 Novaspace’s NEW Software-Defined Satellites report is a thorough analysis of the SDS movement, enabling decision makers to seize opportunities and shape strategies. AST Space Mobile and Vodafone Sign Long Term 5G Satellite Deal Satellite operator AST SpaceMobile has signed a “definitive” long-term commercial agreement that will allow Vodafone to harness their new network of cellular broadband satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) until 2034. This is essentially a space-based 2G, 4G and 5G mobile broadband service that can connect with regular handsets around the world. This will support AST’s efforts toward launching a total of 100 similar satellites (BlueBirds) over the next few years (future models will be even larger and more capable). Discover 5 reasons why nanosatellites deserve your attention! 🛰️ Missions using larger satellite buses face unique challenges due to their greater mass and subsequent higher costs. In contrast, smaller satellite form factors are used more frequently to support the same wide range of missions as larger satellites, from Earth Observation to communications. With an estimated 790 nanosatellites active in orbit, their popularity continues to soar! But what makes these satellites so advantageous to #SpaceMissions? 🚀 Designed For Constellation Deployment - Their mass production feasibility allows swift constellation deployment, empowering you with an entire fleet dedicated to monitoring according to your needs. Having one allows you to gain accurate, real-time, 24/7, precise high-quality insights. ⏱️ Short Development Times - Where the development process of microsatellites can range from a few months to a few years, #Nanosats can take less than 12 months from concept to launch. 🔄 Flexible Mission Implementation - The small size and modular design of nanosatellites allow quick reconfiguration for different tasks. 💰 Cost-Effective Production - They are cheaper to build and operate than larger satellites due to their smaller size and simplified components. 🛠️ Light Weight - The small mass of nanosatellites (< 20 kg) compared to the weight of microsatellites (< 100 kg) reduces launch complexity and cost. Beyond the Orbit – The Real Value in Satellite Solutions When we talk about satellite communication, the conversation often revolves around LEO vs. GEO vs. MEO. But here’s a thought: The real value isn’t just in the orbit. It’s in the solution it enables. A few days ago, I shared a post saying that the most important thing is to be connected with quality, and quality depends on what your application needs most: -Low latency for real-time responses? -Speed for high-bandwidth tasks? -Stability for consistent performance? -Scalability for growing demands? - Anything else? Cost? At the end of the day, customers don’t buy satellites, they buy outcomes: -Reliable connectivity for remote operations -Seamless performance for critical applications -Scalable networks for growing demand -Simply being connected It’s not about which orbit is “better”, it’s about how well the technology solves the problem at hand. Sometimes, GEO provides the perfect answer. Other times, it’s LEO or MEO. And often, it’s a hybrid approach that delivers the best results. So, let’s shift the focus from “Which orbit wins?” to “Which solution delivers?” What do you think? Are we too focused on orbits instead of outcomes? #SatelliteSolutions #HybridNetworks #ConnectivityQuality #FutureOfConnectivity #NetworkPerformance #marcoscoseglio
