This is exactly why we only say please support regenerative organic farming. Without the practices being organic ( no glyphosate or toxic chemicals) the soil cannot regenerate. The soil microbes are imbalanced by the presence of toxic chemicals. Bayer is trying to use the word regenerative to encourage farmers to plant cover crops like chickpeas and then spray the crop with glyphosate as a drying agent resulting in sales of glyphosate and glyphosate in our food or: Banza pasta. Good sales for Bayer. Not good for us or Banza.

We’re delighted to share the news of BioLumic’s recent partnership with AgriZeroNZ—including an investment into the company—dedicated to enhancing forage grass quality that will improve metabolic efficiency for cows and curb methane emissions.   BioLumic’s seed light treatments activate Genetic Expression traits—we are programming plants with light to unlock natural genetic potential. The partnership is focused on higher-fat traits in ryegrass and other valuable compositional changes that research has shown can reduce enteric fermentation. We’re aiming for a 12% reduction in methane emissions while bolstering productivity for pastureland farmers – stackable with other innovations. Dear #climateaction community: We know from many studies that #glyphosate harms #mycorrhizal #fungi, which is the Earth's most efficient & effective carbon dioxide management system operating for millennia. In 2023, a groundbreaking paper led by Dr. Toby Kiers of SPUN | Society for the Protection of Underground Networks found that mycorrhizal fungi stores and transports roughly 13GT of carbon dioxide a year, which is roughly 36% of GLOBAL CARBON EMISSIONS! https://lnkd.in/g7KRb6d7 To think humans can "solve" climate change without protecting mycorrhizal fungi is beyond idiotic and could not be farther from the truth, and yet, many people I've interacted with in the "carbon dioxide removal" space (#CDR) overlook this fact, and actually, don't think it's in their "wheelhouse" to even comment on pesticide usage! Awesome news for the company, but bittersweet for Aotearoa New Zealand. The recent announcement by CH4Global - who are gaining traction globally. This is a company with strong roots in New Zealand. 👉 Their product utilises a form of red seaweed (Asparagopsis), native to New Zealand and South Australian waters, which has been scientifically proven to significantly reduce methane emissions. 👉 Developmental work for their natural methane reducing product has been undertaken and supported in New Zealand with input from the Provincial Growth Fund (2019/2020). 👉 They have facilities in Ocean Beach, Bluff. 👉 The company secured major international investors to help roll out their natural methane reducing product globally – one of the very few in the world. With all this initial work already undertaken in New Zealand – it would have been awesome to have secured a first mover country opportunity. Their story transcends so much of our environmental, technological and innovation aspirations. But CH4 Global have publicly shared frustrations around the regulatory pathway in New Zealand for products such as theirs, as well as other issues and challenges. They did so earlier this year at our Mooving On Methane event in Taranaki. They are not waiting for Aotearoa, nor are they standing still. Production is being scaled in Australia and elsewhere, and deals are being done in countries, not here. There is great work being done in this country in methane reduction. I found this super interesting in the attached BCG article. #FactOne: Governments worldwide provided USD40billion in purchase subsidies for EVs in 2022 vs USD635million (with an M) on support for alt-proteins. #FactTwo: Road transportation accounts for 10% of Green House Gas emissions, whereas Animal agriculture accounts for 15-20%. #Meaning: Government support in 2022 was USD4billion for every targetable GHG-percentage in road transport, and just USD32-42million for targetable GHG-percentage in animal agriculture. That's a 100-fold difference. #Question: If you were starting an impact-focused business today and working out where to place your bet, would you chase the existing government grants (EVs), or bet that governments will recognise the outsize impact they could have if they start subsidizing Alt-Proteins, and start a business ready to capitalise on that sector when the penny drops?
