💡Have you experienced confirmation? I mean true confirmation that the work you're doing matters? 👩🏾⚕️In 2019, my thesis paper to obtain my master's degree in nursing education talked about how to infuse cultural competence and diversity into nursing programs across the nation. 🔬Last night, I watched the documentary 'Everybody's Work: Healing What Hurts Us All' with DNPs of Color. The organization's annual conference is currently underway in Philadelphia, and they showed the documentary to kick off the three-day event. 🩺This documentary talked about the impact of racism within the field of nursing: the impact on patients, the profession, and most of all, the nurses who endure it. 📄We heard from nurses who are doing the work to bring implicit bias to the forefront. We got emotional as we heard our own stories within the documentary about being discouraged from pursuing continuing education because of prejudice. 🪶One quote I vividly remember was, 'Culture is our prevention.' ✅This is the reason why I do the work that I do. This is everyone's work to heal, and I am doing my part. I can't write everything here. A blog post is on the way for SURE, but this is confirmation that I'm not the only one passionate about this work. We are working together, and we will prevail! Want to make a difference? Start by educating yourself on implicit bias in healthcare. There are great resources available online. I have a short video about it posted in LinkedIn. Give it a watch 👉🏾https://lnkd.in/eGVAVqAi #NursingEquity #DiversityInHealthcare

What do Captain Kirk and Fellow Kristy Fillmore, MScN, RN, NPD-BC, CPHQ have in common? Both "go where no (wo)man has gone before". There are (3) barriers to #nursesinmedia 1. Lack of comprehensive media policies 2. Lack of media training opportunities 3. Lack of streamlined media request management To overcome these barriers, Kristy has spent the past 12 months of her Advocacy Institute Fellowship developing a first-of-its-kind "Amplifying Nurses Voices in Media: Policies, Recommendations, and Guidelines" document for nurses, PR & communication teams, and healthcare organizations. This document will create avenues for amplifying nurses' voices, enabling the nursing profession, their associations, and healthcare institutions to promote positive narratives that influence public perception, drive advocacy for improved health and healthcare, and empower nurses to influence health policy. Our 2025 Fellow will continue Kristy's work by: 1. Connecting with nursing leadership and communication departments to advocate for proposed recommendations. 2. Engaging in conversations with media & PR experts regarding barriers to nurses in media. Apply to the 2025 Advocacy Institute Fellowship - Nurses in Media today: https://lnkd.in/gmzjsYUE

Maslow on the Nursing Floor: #NCLEX® Delegation Dilemmas and Beyond Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a powerful framework, but applying it to delegation in real-world nursing situations can raise some questions for #NCLEX® students. Let's explore some potential fears and frustrations: NCLEX® Anxieties Subjectivity Creep: Maslow's hierarchy can feel subjective – how do I assess a patient's exact needs level during an exam? Time Constraints: The NCLEX® doesn't always provide extensive patient details. Can I delegate effectively with limited information? One-Size-Fits-All Doesn't Fit All: Maslow's hierarchy is a general guide. What about unique patient situations or cultural considerations? Real-World Frustrations: Competing Needs: A patient might have unmet physiological needs (hunger) but also require emotional support (talking to a family member). How do I prioritize delegation in this case? Limited Resources: What if there aren't enough qualified individuals to delegate tasks that address higher-level needs (e.g., social worker for loneliness)? Don't Despair! Here's the NCLEX® Advantage: While Maslow's hierarchy can't predict every scenario, it provides a valuable framework for critical thinking on the NCLEX® and in practice: Prioritization: Understanding the hierarchy helps identify the most pressing needs to address first (e.g., addressing pain before delegating a bath). Safety First: Maslow's bottom level (physiological needs) always takes precedence. You wouldn't delegate tasks until basic life support needs are met. Clinical Judgment: The NCLEX® tests your ability to apply knowledge to specific situations. Maslow's hierarchy helps you analyze patient needs and delegate accordingly. Remember: Maslow's hierarchy is a tool, not a rigid rule. Use it to guide your delegation decisions while considering all available information and prioritizing patient safety. #henriettaayinor #NCLEXPrep #Delegation #MaslowsHierarchy #futurenurse #studentnurse
