The trend of cost overruns in the Olympic Games is a major concern for host cities, with every one of the last 60 Games exceeding its initial budget. However, there is evidence suggesting that cost overruns reduced after the introduction of The Olympic Games Knowledge Management (OGKM) developed IOC to facilitate the transfer of knowledge between Organising Committees of the Olympic Games (OCOGs). Initiated during the preparations for the Sydney 2000 Olympics, the OGKM program aims to capture and share the extensive knowledge gained from hosting the Games, thereby supporting future host cities in their planning and execution efforts. With the #Brisbane2032 Olympics on the horizon, we have a unique opportunity to leverage data standards and advanced technologies to further close the knowledge gap. By using data and advanced technologies as a tool for knowledge management, Brisbane can harness insights that have not been fully utilised previously. This approach can ensure financial viability and make Brisbane 2032 an historic success.
