👀 📈 “'Demand for AI expertise is already high and will continue to grow,” Cantwell said in a statement. “This bill will open doors to AI for students at all levels, and upskill our workforce to drive American tech innovation, entrepreneurship and progress in solving the toughest global challenges.' The AI bill, which is called the NSF AI Education Act of 2024, calls on the National Science Foundation (NSF) to execute numerous programs bolstering U.S. expertise in AI and quantum computing, a technology that allows for problem solving on a time scale that would be unachievable using classical computers. The proposed programs include: 📜 Awarding undergraduate and graduate scholarships in AI with a focus on the use of AI in agriculture, education and advanced manufacturing, as well as scholarships in quantum computing and programs that blend traditional and quantum computing. 🌽 Providing grants for research on the use of AI in agriculture. 🧬 Creating professional development fellowships for those working in STEM and education. 🏛️ Establishing AI 'Centers of Excellence' at five or more community colleges nationwide for collaborating with educators to develop instructional materials for teaching students about AI. 💻 Developing guidance and tools for students to use AI in K-12 classrooms. 🎓 Launching the 'NSF Grand Challenges' to devise a plan for educating at least 1 million workers in AI by 2028. Its goals includes supporting populations such as women and rural residents who are underrepresented in tech." #AIinEducation #HigherEd #K12 #Teachers

With Slate’s AI technologies expected to emerge in the next couple of years, admissions offices should start to position their workflows, dashboards, and data structures in a way that will fully capitalize on AI’s capabilities. The traditional step-ladder approach to Slate knowledge acquisition is expected to have a higher drop-off between enrollment positions, leading to a higher premium for Slate adminstrators. It’s alarming to see only 9% of chief technology officers believe higher education is prepared to keep pace with technological advances. Those who keep pace are likely to excel beyond competitors in process efficiencies and to some extent, customer service. I am proud to say the Poole College of Management’s Jenkins Graduate Admissions team is embracing these changes to keep pace and offer exceptional customer service to our students. #EmbraceInnovation #SlatedForSuccess #NCState #JenkinsGraduatePrograms
ICYMI | Nearly two years after generative artificial intelligence exploded into the public consciousness, just 9 percent of chief technology officers believe higher education is prepared to handle the new technology’s rise. That’s one of several key takeaways from Inside Higher Ed’s third annual Survey of Campus Chief Technology/Information Officers, executed with help from Hanover Research earlier this year. The results offer a portrait of how colleges and universities are—and aren’t—using technology to enhance learning, work and research in an era of rapidly evolving digital innovation. Inside Higher Ed's Colleen Flaherty and guest panelists Mohanbir Sawhney from Northwestern University and Castle AI Consulting's Christopher van der Kaay, Ph.D. will discuss the survey results in an upcoming webcast next week, on Wednesday, November 13, at 2 p.m. E.T. Register to join live and download the full survey results here ➡️ https://bit.ly/3ChxQMN

#Student founders of data & AI products get their own #GPU cluster at Universität Duisburg-Essen 🎉 We have been ambitious in supporting aspiring digital entrepreneurs at the university. I believe this is a vital way to solve the big challenges of our time with cutting-edge tech. Solving such issues is a major reason, why we founded the Place Beyond Bytes last year. Among the many challenges that entrepreneurs face with AI products, compute resources and the skills to use them are a particular bottleneck that hold students back. I see a lot of computer science and information systems students trying to train #machinelearning models on their laptops, or using all AWS/GCloud credits that they can get a hand on. With the new GPU cluster, we provide any student who becomes a member of Place Beyond Bytes or who attends our ML/AI classes with the compute resources necessary to process their complex models, and work on innovative prototypes that solve important problems. --- What is a GPU cluster? --- A GPU cluster combines multiple Graphical Processing Units that accelerate the development of AI products, enabling students to efficiently process large datasets and train complex models quickly. This setup is crucial for advanced AI projects, offering the computational power necessary for rapid innovation and experimentation. #ArtificialIntelligence #entrepreneurship #university #spinoff Thanks to the new computer science faculty at Universität Duisburg-Essen and GUIDE - Zentrum für Gründungen und Innopreneurship der Universität Duisburg-Essen, esp. Pedro and Bernhard, for their ongoing support! Special thanks to Projektträger Jülich (PtJ), Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (namely, funding line ZSL), and Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Industrie, Klimaschutz und Energie des Landes NRW (namely, funding line Exzellenz Start-up Center.NRW) for their financial support!
