I am delighted to share my overview report that I have worked on for almost a month. It is titled “Overview Report - The Agricultural Sector of Ethiopia: An Analysis of Production, Policies, and Interventions”. The following is the link to my report: https://lnkd.in/eARqz6er Description: The overview report explores the current situation of agriculture in Ethiopia, detailing its contributions, challenges and potential for development. The necessity for development interventions aimed at boosting food security and agricultural productivity is becoming ever clearer, given Ethiopia’s dependence on rainfed farming, in addition to persistent droughts. The report discusses various initiatives, including the Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP), the Agricultural Commercialisation Cluster (ACC) Initiative, and the Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) Strategy, all established to promote sustainable agricultural growth and resilience. The report focuses on these national development interventions to discuss the ways that Ethiopia is working towards modernising its agricultural sector while tackling socioeconomic challenges.

I always talk about how farming and food are going to be super important in the future. People who grow their own food will be the ones who make it. Saudis understand this, and Pakistan can benefit because 65% of our population are involved in farming in some way. #agriculture #agriforce #food #growingeconomy #foodcrisis #farming #saudi #pakistan #farms #Karachi #lahore # https://lnkd.in/dZubGe8S

Brazil's $500 Billion Agricultural Miracle - Lessons for Africa. How did #Brazil navigate its remarkable journey from a food importer in the 1960s to the world's No. 1 #Soybean #Producer and #Exporter by 2018, ahead of the United States? Brazil's food exports, including #soybeans, #meat, #sugar, etc. surpassed $160 billion in 2023. Brazil's Agricultural Sector contributed over $500 billion to the country's GDP. That's much more than the total GDP of any African country, from just Brazil's Agricultural sector! One of the factors behind this transformation was #EMBRAPA, Embrapa Brazil's Agricultural Research Agency, which developed improved varieties of soybean seeds, which produce very high yields per hectare in Brazil's tropical region. Other factors such as the importance of modern farming #practices, #technological advancements, and robust #rural #infrastructure, are covered in the attached. This provides crucial #lessons and #opportunities for #African nations to achieve similar rapid #AgriculturalDevelopment. If Brazil, with similar #climatic conditions can achieve such impressive #AgriculturalTransformation, why not African nations like South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, etc.? 📣 H.E Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed highlighted significant growth in the agriculture sector during his address to Parliament today. According to Dr. Abiy, the " Bounty of the Basket " initiative has led to substantial changes in achieving in the road to food security. For instance, due to increased attention to the honey production sector, production has surged sevenfold. As production continues to rise over time, the prices of these goods will stabilize, ensuring a healthy lifestyle and healthy market system. In addition to pioneering efforts in wheat, coffee, livestock, and honey production, there is a push to strengthen momentum in the tea, rice and horticulture sectors to further boost productivity. This strategy aims to lower costs of living and increase foreign currency generation. Regarding fertilizers, Ethiopia imports 15 million quintals annually. Despite logistical challenges in transportation, especially to remote areas, the government has allocated a significant budget to ensure distribution across the country. More than 13 million quintals have already been imported and is being distributed this year, with the remainder en route through Djibouti. The fertilizer distribution this year has been seamless, well-organized, and deemed successful. Overall, with focused efforts on irrigation development and improved seed varieties, the government is demonstrating unprecedented commitment to establishing a robust foundation for agricultural growth. Building upon significant growth registered in various sectors, the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI) remains steadfastly committed to enhancing efforts aimed at achieving agricultural transformation in our country.
