Imagine half of your Christmas gifts were just empty packaging… …in voluntary carbon markets, at least half of carbon-credit generating activities may not be delivering the climate impacts that they claim. A recent OECD - OCDE paper explores the interplay between voluntary and compliance carbon markets, and provides guiding principles to help governments strategically engage with carbon markets to unlock mitigation opportunities and scale up climate action 🌍 Read it now to discover the key insights 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eMPdYa6w #CarbonMarkets | #OECD Klas Wetterberg, Elisa Lanzi

🌱 This is the story of how the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action came to be. 🌺 Since 2018, an initial group of countries recognized the complex challenges posed by climate change, and the unique capacity of the world's finance ministers to address them. 🌳 As the Coalition turns five years old, we continue to work as a unified body on the world’s most difficult climate challenges. We learn from each other’s interventions and work to repeat successes wherever they may arise. 🎥 Watch our video to better understand who we are, what we do, and how we do it! 🎆 🎉 #CFMCA #5YearsInAction #climateaction

#Innovate4Climate 2024 is a great convening with policy makers, beneficiary countries, and shareholders, participate. I stressed the urgency for climate action, as you can read in my remarks: http://wrld.bg/Olhw50TtwgT The focus of the conference was carbon markets, which can be a game changer in advancing climate action, especially when climate financing needs are estimated in the trillions. At The World Bank, we published a report on this topic, which explains what is working and why both coverage and pricing need to go up for emissions to go down: http://wrld.bg/si5H50Ttwf1

𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗔 𝗕𝗘𝗟𝗙𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗜 & 𝗬𝗔𝗡𝗘𝗟 𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗛𝗜𝗦: #ClimateAction During a climate crisis, countries globally struggle to meet their commitments to the 2015 Paris Agreement. Striking a balance between economic growth and climate objectives isn't easy, particularly for developing countries, where political and economic challenges often take precedence over long-term sustainability. The concept of 'common but differentiated responsibilities' within the Paris Agreement has yet to transform into a reality. Could the answer lie in rethinking climate policy and making more space for fairness in bearing climate action costs? Read more https://ow.ly/TkS350TkFsP

“Rather than being a barrier to participation, governments around the world must ensure that their policy environment enables private sector action and ambition when it comes to climate adaptation and resilience. The question is: What can the public and private sector do to make these changes?” asks Jorge Gastelumendi in his new piece for the Atlantic Council. As New York Climate Week continues, this is one of the most important conversations. The world is falling short of its climate finance goals, and it’s clear that the private sector must become a more effective partner to take on these dangerous and growing climate impacts. But so, too, must the public sector work to address financial systems to ensure that they are fit for purpose and enable private sector action. To learn how we can begin to take this on, read the New Atlanticist today. 🔗 https://bit.ly/4enm3dZ

Not all countries stand equal chances in addressing the climate crisis. 🏭 The reason is: conflict. To help those hardest hit by #ClimateChange and affected by conflicts move towards a more resilient and sustainable future, our approaches to climate finance must change. On #WorldEnvironmentDay, read our policy note on what governments, development banks and financial institutions need to do to: 🎯Ensure climate finance reaches those in conflict settings 🤝Make climate finance more conflict-sensitive and inclusive 📍Put locally-led approaches at the heart of climate action Learn more from the full paper here: https://bit.ly/45j6UGT

I'm excited to present at this important conference. Adaptation to sea-level rise is an important topic, especially with respect to potential impacts at coastal landfills and contaminated sites from groundwater, which is more challenging to mitigate than surface water inundation. Looking forward to sharing what my colleagues Lucas W. Paz and Peter Zawislanski and I have been up to at Terraphase Engineering Inc. #groundwater #terraphaseengineeringinc #climatechange #sealevelriseadaptation #groundwaterriseandemergence #hydrogeology
Tracy Roth, PG, will be presenting at Battelle’s 3rd Innovations in Climate Change Resilience Conference with a platform presentation entitled “One Size Does Not Fit All: Sea-level Rise Adaptation Solutions Require Site-Specific Phased Approaches”. The conference will be held April 22 – 24 at the Ronald Regan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. Tracy will be speaking on April 23rd in Session A1, Investing in Climate Resilient Infrastructure. #Sealevelrise #Climatechange
