iT1 - Best place to work. I have been a reseller for almost 16 years now. I worked a little over 11 years at my last employer, and I have been at iT1 for over 4 1/2 years. A couple of weeks ago, I was on a call with one of the owners and a customer. When I introduced the owner as technically my manager, he corrected me, stating that he was not my manager—my customers were my managers. I work for them, and they dictate my job and what I need to do. Tell me: When/how did you realize that doing well at work =/= doing your work well? Hidden expectations are all around us. These “rules” are what your manager, team, or client often expect… but don’t share. Trying to figure out what the “secrets” are in your new role or organization? Consider asking your manager: “I’m hoping to learn more about how to [complete task]. Is there anyone I could speak to who most recently touched these files? If so, might you be able to make an introduction?” Or, you can try: “I noticed that the files I’m working on came from [name]. Do you think you’d be able to introduce me to them? I’d like to learn more about how to ______.” A question like this can help you accomplish 3 things: (1) Show your manager that you are committed to doing your work competently (2) Get an intro from a higher-up, which can hold more weight than a cold email or message (3) Build a possible relationship with someone a step or two ahead of you who can be a guide Every organization, team, and person will be different. So don’t be afraid to tweak questions to fit your circumstances. The good news is that there are more ways than one to figure out #theunspokenrules —and in turn, create your own opportunities. So, we’re coming to the end of the first month of the year… We get that for alot of people (including our team) – the start of a new year can feel both exciting and a bit overwhelming. January might have flown by, but staring down the months ahead can sometimes feel daunting. So, we've put togerther some small "solutions" to help you tackle the next few weeks with confidence and ease: 📖 Break It Down: Instead of looking at the whole year, focus on smaller, actionable goals. Whether it’s hitting milestones for a project or hiring key talent, smaller wins can make big challenges feel more achievable. ⏳ Focus on Priorities: Not everything needs to be done immediately. Identify what’s most critical for the next few weeks and channel your energy there. 🤝 Leverage Support: Whether it’s leaning on your team, outsourcing work, or finding the right tech talent to fill skill gaps, don’t hesitate to bring in reinforcements. You don’t have to do it all alone! 🥳 Celebrate Progress: Don’t wait until the end of Q1 to recognise achievements. Celebrate the small wins along the way—they matter just as much as the big ones.
