Preserving heritage assets for future generations demands efficient management strategies. Besides the ongoing need to shield artifacts from light, temperature shifts, humidity, and pollutants, other challenges have been added to the mix: climate change, theft and vandalism and dilemmas over whether and how museums can make more of their collections accessible to the public. Digital technologies have emerged to play a key role in such management strategies in recent years, allowing museums to create virtual replicas of their objects and spaces as part of their management toolkit. A prominent example of using 3D scanning technology for cultural preservation includes a project fuelled by Smithsonian Institution and FARO Technologies, a global leader in 3D measurement, which employs tools like laser arm and long-range laser scanners to capture museum objects in three dimensions accurately. Recently, FARO integrated Smithsonian 3D data into VR and AR systems, allowing people worldwide to view, interact with, and enjoy Smithsonian collection objects or scientific research sites in a fully immersive environment, regardless of location. I explore other fascinating examples and use cases for digital twins technology in the museum and cultural space in my recent article: https://lnkd.in/eRMSEzj2 #digitaltwins #spatialcomputing #culturalheritage #museums

What makes museums and visitor experience sites truly special? The ability to tell stories in 3D! Exhibit design transforms text, photos, oral histories, artifacts, data, and more into immersive experiences that connect people to the narratives being told. These multidimensional stories impart important messages about the world around us, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of history, art, science, and culture. Through thoughtful and engaging design, museums become spaces where stories come to life, leaving a lasting impact on all who visit. 📷 Library of Congress, "Exploring the Early Americas" #MuseumDesign #ExhibitDesign #ExhibitDesign #ExhibitionDesign #ExhibitDesigners #ExhibitionDesigners #MuseumPlanning #ExhibitPlanning #MuseumProfessionals

🚀 Technology in Museums: Engaging the Next Generation 🎨 In today’s digital age, museums are embracing innovative technologies to make art and history more engaging, especially for younger audiences. The integration of interactive displays, virtual tours, augmented reality (AR) and even AI-driven experiences is revolutionizing how we interact with cultural heritage. During my past visit to the Van Gogh Museum, I witnessed how these tools bring art to life, captivate and educate young minds. Kids can step inside Van Gogh’s paintings, explore his world, and engage with his art in ways that are both fun and deeply educational. #Interreg can make an impact by funding cross-border cooperation and supporting initiatives in cultural innovation. Interreg can help museums and other cultural monuments across eligible areas in Europe access the resources they need to modernize and create engaging experiences for all visitors—especially the youth. These upgrades not only enhance accessibility but also foster a sense of shared European heritage. Check out the photo from my visit to the Van Gogh Museum—an example of how technology is reshaping the museum experience! 🎥 #MuseumTech #InnovationInMuseums #InterregGreeceItaly #InterregCulture #YouthEngagement #DigitalLearning #ArtEducation #VanGogh #VirtualReality #AugmentedReality #TechInCulture #FutureOfMuseums

When designing exhibitions, why stop at inspiring visitors? Why not go all the way and generate a sense of AWE?! 'Museums, art galleries, and heritage sites are ideal environments to cultivate these moments of awe' according to Amelia Bloore, Head of Interpretation at Nissen Richards Studio, as she seeks to deepen our appreciation of the power of awe and investigate how to evoke it in this interesting new essay for A Museum For Now - https://lnkd.in/ekEZMH2u

S9 Takes the Stage: 3D Holography for Cultural Tourism Discover the S9, a 83cm window into history, art, and culture, transforming any exhibition space into a holographic theatre of the past. This is where 3D holography meets cultural tourism, creating experiences that are not only seen but lived. Visitors to your exhibition can witness historical battles unfold around them, see sculptures take form layer by layer, or stroll through ancient streets, all in a mesmerizing 3D space. The S9 doesn't just display art; it breathes life into it, allowing every brushstroke and chisel mark to tell its own story. For museums and cultural centers, the S9 offers a new dimension of storytelling. It's an educational tool, a bridge connecting the present to the past, and a canvas where history is painted in the air. The S9 is not just about displaying culture; it's about immersing your audience in the very essence of civilization. #3dhologram #3dGift #3dhologramfan #3dledfan #ZYCaraok
