☝ The mushroom sector has around 2,900 European producers who provide more than 40,000 direct jobs, mainly in rural Europe. ☝The Netherlands plays a very important role on the European mushroom market. Of the production for the fresh market, 35% is consumed locally and 65% is exported, mainly to neighbouring markets such as Germany and the United Kingdom. The common white mushrooms dominate the Dutch market, accounting for 75% of the production, with brown mushrooms (or chestnut mushrooms) representing 25%. This is from the articles published not by UMDIS Mushroom Agency - but by HorecaMagazine ☝ The only fact I wanna check: "The Netherlands has about a hundred mushroom growers, of which 55 companies focus on the fresh market, 15 on the processing industry and 25 on the production of other varieties such as shiitake and oyster mushrooms". Is in Netherlands now still 100 farms - or those data is from some years - before closing some farms due to American market regulations? https://lnkd.in/g_k3kaF9

(CHINA/CHILE 14.07.24) #tablegrapes China Set To Surpass Chile as World’s Second-Largest Grape Exporter [AG: Australia’s Growing Role in Global Table Grape Production and Export] China is projected to surpass Chile as the world's second-largest exporter of fresh table grapes https://lnkd.in/eirpZ-Uv, with production expected to reach 13.5 million metric tons in the 2023/24 season. This increase follows five years of growth, while global grape production is forecasted at 28.1 million metric tons https://lnkd.in/ep7v7VYt. Despite favorable conditions in China and India, global exports are set to decline by 200,000 metric tons to 3.5 million metric tons due to reduced exports from the U.S., Peru, and Turkey. Chile's production is expected to decrease to 635,000 metric tons, continuing a decade-long decline, while Peru remains the largest exporter despite a slight production increase. ----- [AG: This is what we know - The largest table grape producers in the world are China, Turkey and Italy, which together account for nearly 70% of global production. China is the leading producer, with a significant portion of its grapes consumed domestically. Australia ranks as the 10th largest table grape producer globally, with production projected to reach a record 220,000 metric tons in the 2023/24 season. Notably, Australia is a significant exporter, with approximately 70% of its production destined for international markets, primarily in Asia, helping to maintain its position as one of the largest fresh fruit exporters in the world. Australia imports between 10,000 and 20,000 tons of table grapes annually, with almost all imports coming from the United States, specifically California. These imports occur primarily during Australia's off-season to supplement domestic supplies. Over the past ten years, Australia's table grape consumption has averaged below 70,000 tons annually. Consumption as a share of production has declined from 45% to a projected 36% in 2022/23, as the focus has shifted towards exports. Despite this decline in domestic consumption, Australia remains one of the highest per capita consumers of table grapes outside South America.] -----

(CHINA 19.12.24) #tablegrapes China’s Crimson Grape Market Struggles With Plummeting Prices [AG: The Crimson Grape Crisis - Will Australia’s Table Grape Exports Feel the Impact?] Xichang, a key producer of Crimson grapes, is facing a market downturn with prices dropping to record lows. Oversupply, poor weather affecting fruit quality, and disrupted exports have led to a glut in the domestic market. Growers are now selling at a fraction of previous prices, and with storage full, large inventories risk deterioration if not cleared before the Chinese New Year, further impacting demand. ----- [AG: China's recent struggles with oversupply and plummeting prices for Crimson grapes could have significant implications for Australia's table grape exports. As China’s domestic market floods with low-priced grapes, demand for imports may decline, especially if local producers meet consumer preferences for quality and price. This drop in demand could lead to a tougher export environment for Australian table grape growers, who may find it harder to compete. Without timely market information and strategic export planning, Australia's table grape industry could face difficulties in maintaining its market share in China.] ----- https://lnkd.in/ghGkFFmr

"Peruvian Fresh Grape Exports Skyrocket to $1.78 Trillion in 2023; USA Dominates Market" Peruvian fresh grape exports reached an impressive value of $1,777,090,796 trillion in 2023, marking a robust increase of 32% compared to the previous year's total of $1,345,930,947. Among the standout exporting companies, Sociedad Agrícola Rapel SAC leads the pack with a 8.98% share, followed by El Pedregal SA at 8.23%, Ecosa Agrícola SAC at 7.23%, Corporación Agrícola Agrolatina SAC at 6.11%, and Agrícola Don Ricardo SAC at 5.29% of the total exports. The primary market for Peruvian fresh grapes continues to be the United States, with an impressive volume of over $800 million in 2023. Additionally, other key markets include Europe, Asia, and Latin America, where the demand for Peruvian fresh fruits is steadily growing. Regarding the origin port of fresh grape exports, the port of Callao stands out as the clear leader, with over $900 million in shipments. This prime location, coupled with efficient logistics and modern infrastructure, positions Callao as a hub for fresh fruit trade in the region. Maritime transportation remains the primary shipping method for fresh grape exports, thanks to its ability to transport large volumes of products efficiently and cost-effectively. While air exports of fresh grapes are less common due to capacity constraints and higher costs, they remain an option for urgent and high-value shipments.

Australia’s Missing Table Grape Market Updates.] The 2024-25 South African table grape season began with a late start but is expected to see a 1% increase in export volumes, reaching around 76.4 million cartons. Despite a 30% decrease in exports by week 48 compared to last year, good-quality fruit and newer cultivars are driving optimism. We were all told access to India was such a great win for Australian avocados and it indeed it was, but as is its right, India is looking beyond just Australia, in this case importing avocados from Brazil. This is even more reason for expanding export markets and getting market access to Japan for QLD grown avocados and access for Australian grown avocados to China. When will there be a whole of government approach? I’ll bet you the Brazilians do so, and at the highest political levels in order to get access, just as the Australian governmrnt does so effectively for wine and lobster. Why won’t they do it for fresh produce?? Maybe avocado growers should turn their avos into wine, that might at least get the government’s attention. 😎

As a logistician, I have always been fascinated by the transportation of various goods from point A to point B. My curiosity particularly extends to exotic foods and hazardous cargo. In Kazakhstan, one such exotic product is the avocado, which doesn’t grow locally yet has become increasingly popular due to the healthy lifestyle trend. I was quite surprised to learn about the high criminal involvement associated with this seemingly harmless fruit. A Business Insider video (https://lnkd.in/dttJJjk8) reveals how Mexican farmers have had to seek protection from local drug cartels or arm themselves as heavily as the local military. When it comes to importing avocados into Kazakhstan, this fruit is indeed costly, but the average price hasn’t fluctuated significantly over the reviewed period. However, there have been specific times when the price per kilogram more than doubled the annual average. Official trade data indicates a growing demand for avocados: in 2023, Kazakhstan imported eight times more avocados compared to 2018 (357 tons versus 44 tons). Looking at the countries involved, Mexico, which accounts for about a third of global avocado production, plays a minor role in Kazakhstan's imports and has almost stopped direct shipments in recent years. On the other hand, Russia’s share is increasing, although it doesn’t grow avocados. The Netherlands and Peru are significant suppliers, making up about 30-40% of the total imports. Israel’s share has slightly decreased during the reviewed period. Meanwhile, Turkey's avocado exports to Kazakhstan are on the rise, now reaching about 30 tons annually. Westfalia Fruit exports first South African avocados to China Westfalia Fruit has successfully exported its first avocados from South Africa to China, marking a significant expansion of the company's global footprint. The first container arrived in Shanghai on October 8, and will be featured at the China International Import Expo in November. This achievement strengthens Westfalia Fruit's presence in one of the world's largest economies and underscores their strategy of entering high-potential markets globally. The shipment follows the successful conclusion of a phytosanitary agreement between South Africa and China, signed in August 2023. With China's growing demand for fresh produce, particularly premium fruits like avocados, South Africa is well-positioned to diversify its export markets. Read more:https://lnkd.in/exgmJxhG
