An interesting piece by Mandy Gill from the The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (The CISI). In her article, Mandy tells Training Journal about the evolving skills agenda and what Skills England could mean for lifelong learning. She refers to the findings of our 2023 report ‘Skills for the Future of Financial Services,’ which identified skills-based roles, whether technological, data or coaching, as being the hardest to fill. Increasing the skill levels of the UK workforce is essential to solving Britain’s productivity problem, delivering stronger levels of sustainable growth, and helping the country to compete on the world stage. That’s why we have welcomed the establishment of Skills England, which will bring together businesses and employees, as well as national and regional authorities, and unions, to ensure a better supply of the skills the economy needs. We have set out five priorities for Skills England that will help drive economic growth and position financial services for future success. This model exemplifies our commitment to making built environment education accessible and aligned with industry needs. Despite their success at UCEM, Ashley pointed out that challenges remain for the wider degree apprenticeship system. Funding disparities are stifling further growth and innovation in apprenticeship offerings. These changes are vital for sustaining and expanding the degree apprenticeship system which plays a critical role in addressing the skills gap in the built environment sector.
