On May 16-17, the European Engineering Skills Council held its second meeting in Brussels. President Klaus Thürriedl there represented the ECEC as a dedicated Skills Council member. During this event, the latest trends and actionable measures to shape the European Engineering Skills Strategy were discussed. Representatives of the educational and academic sector, the industry and professional partners as well as policy-making bodies were present, allowing for a productive meeting under many different perspectives. This meeting was a vital part in further developing the Engineers4Europe (E4E) Skills Strategy, which is now set to be released in September this year. #EngineeringExcellence #E4E #Innovation #Collaboration #EuropeanEngineering

#ICYMI: NSF, in partnership with The Lemelson Foundation, announced funding to support five teams whose projects are designed to generate new models for responsible engineering education. The teams will help equip the next generation of engineers with the knowledge and skills to lead sustainable innovations across manufacturing and emerging industries of the future. "These projects from the NSF-Lemelson initiative will help prepare engineering students to consider sustainability as they address complex challenges for our nation's industry, infrastructure and health," said Susan Margulies, NSF assistant director for Engineering. "The curricula and training that result will empower and inspire engineering students to make a difference in their communities." 🌎 We witnessed the magic of our global network in Kenya this month when E4C Fellows convened at ASME ISHOW Kenya. Current and former E4C Fellows met with the finalists and other ASME ISHOW participants in support of the local innovation community. They facilitated roundtable discussions and review sessions between entrepreneurs and experts, and they had the opportunity to meet with Kamau Gachigi (Executive Director of Gearbox), Thomas Costabile (Executive Director of ASME), Iana Aranda (President of E4C), and several of our E4C staff including Jonathan K. and Leah Putman. Conversations touched on Impact projects, career paths, goals, and interests. The ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers) ISHOW program plays a crucial role in empowering hardware-led social innovation. By connecting innovators with resources and expertise, it accelerates solutions that address sustainable development global challenges. Lori Swisher joined CFMA in 2016 and has been making an impact ever since as a board member for the Chicago Chapter and at the national level on the Small Contractor Round Table Task Force, the Peer Group Task Force, the Specialty Trade Committee, and a liaison during at the National Conference. Q: Tell us a little bit about your career path. A: I began my career in public accounting, then moved into the private sector, and finally transitioned to construction. I’ve worked in the construction industry for a mid-sized mechanical contractor for the past decade.   Q: Why did you join CFMA? A: I joined CFMA because of the many resources, networking opportunities, and educational programs it provides. Being part of CFMA has been instrumental in advancing my career. Q: Why should other women consider a field in construction/finance? Words of advice? A: Embracing a career in construction and finance as a woman might initially present challenges, but it also offers the chance to be a trailblazer, breaking down barriers and inspiring positive change. My advice is to be confident in your abilities, seek mentorship from both men and women, and use your unique perspective as a strength.
