Check out this recently published article from Kent Leach from UC Davis Health Department of Orthopaedic Surgery on how decellularized #ECM improves mesenchymal stromal cell spheroid responses to chondrogenic stimuli! This study explores how mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), including those derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), can enhance cartilage healing. By creating high-density cell spheroids and incorporating MSC-secreted extracellular matrix (ECM), researchers boosted the chondrogenic potential of iMSCs. The combination of #ECM, chondrogenic media, and hypoxia increased cartilage-building molecules, enhancing cartilage regeneration. This approach holds promise for improving cartilage repair by harnessing the power of iMSCs and their secreted ECM—offering a potential leap forward in tissue engineering. 📚 Hot off the press: Dr. Erick Marigi's New Publication! 📚 We are so proud of one of our newest members of the team. Dr. Marigi has brought an incredible set of talents to our table. His most recent research focuses on reverse total shoulder arthroplasties, which have become increasingly utilized and are the most common type of shoulder replacement performed in many countries across the world. However, complications can still occur. With over 30 different commercially available RSA systems, this study utilized a game-theory-based machine learning analysis to acquire a better understanding of the interactions between implant design, patient-specific factors, and surgical complications. Overall, the authors found that patient-specific risk factors (smoking, prior surgery, instability) had a more substantial effect than implant design configurations on surgical complications after rTSA. However, certain implant features (medialized glenoid, inlay, higher neck shaft angle) appeared to be associated with a higher odd of surgical complications. This research highlights the importance of careful preoperative planning that includes consideration of individual patient factors and the selection of implants with ideal features to mitigate the risk for surgical complications. Check out his full publication here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGPsarZa Help us congratulate Dr. Marigi on his success! 🙌 #MayoClinicFlorida #orthopedicsurgery #published #healthcareheroes #healthcareexcellence #orthopedics #medicalinnovation

When it comes to advanced solutions for rotator cuff repairs, the choice of technology can significantly impact patient outcomes. At Anika we're proud of our Integrity system and its proven benefits. But how does it stack up against REGENTEN, another leading option? Here's a closer look: 1. Material Composition: Integrity utilizes a cutting-edge hyaluronic acid-based scaffold. The scaffold of Integrity is a porous, knitted, flexible construct combining Anika’s proprietary Hyaff® material, a solid form of HA that supports tissue regeneration and resorbs over time, and is reinforced with non-resorbable polyethylene terephthalate (PET). REGENTEN, in contrast, employs a bovine (cow) collagen scaffold. 2. Strength: Integrity’s flexible, porous knitted structure enables nearly 50% greater tensile strength, over 3x stronger suture retention strength, and over 3x more tear resistance compared to REGENETEN in a head-to-head preclinical study. 3. Regenerative Capacity: Integrity supports healing through improved cell infiltration, tissue remodeling, and 3x greater tendon thickening compared to REGENETEN in preclinical testing. We invite you to explore our comprehensive comparison on our website, book a demo and discover why Integrity is the preferred choice for many surgeons and patients seeking effective rotator cuff repair solutions. 🌐 https://lnkd.in/eQVfnSa4 #RotatorCuffRepair #Orthopedics #Anika #MedicalInnovation #Healthcare #Surgery #PatientCare #Recovery

𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠: used when the damage is large enough but still only involves the surface of the bone. One type of Resurfacing technique involves the use of the patient's own cells to grow new cartilage cells. This process is medically known as Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (ACI). Another Resurfacing technique involves the use of donor cells that are pasted into the damaged cartilage. This is referred to as Allograft Implantation. Resurfacing can be visualized as a method of ‘Repaving the Street’ 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: when cartilage damage extends beyond the surface and involves underlying bone, a structural graft or ‘plug’ is necessary to restore pain-free function. This process is medically referred to as an Osteochondral Autograft Transplantation (OAT) and uses the patient's own cells or donor tissue if the damage is large enough to warrant such. It can be visualized as ‘Filling a Pothole’ within the damaged cartilage as seen within our video. Stay tuned as we dive deeper into the world of Cartilage Restoration and even hear how an avid runner who was able to run a marathon just months after his Cartilage Restoration procedure. #CartilageRestoration #KneePain #Solution #Orthopedics

Did you know that freeze spray has been a game-changer in medical settings since the mid-20th century? 🧪❄️ First used in the 1950s, freeze spray revolutionized the way tissue samples were prepared for microscopic examination. Pathologists and researchers quickly adopted this innovative tool for its ability to rapidly freeze tissues, preserving their cellular structure and allowing for detailed analysis. In Mohs surgery, freeze spray started being used to enhance the precision and speed of the procedure, allowing surgeons to freeze and slice thin layers of skin on-site for immediate examination. This advancement significantly improved the accuracy and effectiveness of skin cancer treatments. So, the next time you think of freeze spray, remember its rich history and the critical role it has played in advancing medical science and patient care since the 1950s! When it comes to rotator cuff repairs, choosing the right solution is crucial for optimal recovery. At Anika we believe that our Integrity Implant System stands out for its innovative design and effectiveness. But how does it compare to REGENETEN? Key Differences 1. Material: Integrity features a unique hyaluronic acid-based scaffold, which promotes natural healing and biocompatibility, and is reinforced with non-absorbable polyethylene terephthalate (PET). REGENETEN, on the other hand, utilizes a bovine (cow) collagen scaffold. 2. Strength: Integrity’s flexible, porous knitted structure enables nearly 50% greater tensile strength, over 3x stronger suture retention strength, and over 3x more tear resistance compared to REGENETEN.1 3. Regenerative Capacity: Integrity supports healing through improved cell infiltration, tissue remodeling, and 3x greater tendon thickening compared to REGENETEN in head-to-head preclinical testing.
