Sound governance at the IOC? 😉 It is a very wise decision by IOC current head Thomas Bach to reject a third mandate and announce he’ll be stepping down in June 2025. Putting a cap on the number of mandates one can serve on a board ( or elsewhere like any elected position ) is a very sound practice in terms of governance. There should never be such things as “President for life”… it always smells of dictatorship, cronyism and problematic governance eventually. We’ve already seen that in many sports organisations (FIFA, UEFA,…) , in public companies and of course the world of politics is full of dramatic examples. Best practice is capping the number of mandates and 2 mandates or 10 years on the job seems to me the maximum we should accept. What’s your take? 🤔

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, recently appointed Double Olympic Medal Winner in Shooting, Manu Bhaker, as the Brand Ambassador for the Ministry. This appointment is not just symbolic; it serves a larger purpose of inspiring government employees to bring their best to the table, following the example of a sports champion who exemplifies discipline, hard work, and relentless pursuit of excellence. When government employees see a figure like Manu Bhaker—someone who has overcome challenges, honed her skills, and achieved success on a global stage—it creates a motivational ripple effect. Her appointment signals that just as athletes strive for perfection, employees in the public sector should also aim for excellence in their work. It serves as a reminder that the discipline and dedication seen in the sporting arena are equally essential in the public service domain. Bhaker’s background as the daughter of a marine engineer connects her to the industry, making her a relatable role model for employees in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways. Her achievements demonstrate that excellence is possible through commitment and continuous improvement, values that are critical for the functioning of any government department. MS Dhoni’s Influence on SBI: A Parallel Example A similar strategy was adopted by the State Bank of India (SBI) when they appointed cricket legend MS Dhoni as their Brand Ambassador. At the time, SBI was facing significant customer dissatisfaction due to poor service quality. However, the choice of Dhoni, known for his leadership, composure under pressure, and winning mentality, had a profound impact not just on the bank’s public image, but on its employees. Following Dhoni’s appointment, there was a marked shift in the work culture at SBI. Inspired by Dhoni’s qualities, employees began to feel a renewed sense of responsibility and commitment. They felt encouraged to give 100% in their roles, leading to an improvement in service delivery and a more customer-centric approach. Dhoni’s reputation as a sports icon who leads by example helped employees internalize the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance—qualities essential to turning around the bank’s public image and operational effectiveness. In the same way, Manu Bhaker’s appointment as the Brand Ambassador for MoPSW has the potential to bring about a significant change in employee motivation. Government employees can draw inspiration from her dedication to excellence and her journey of overcoming obstacles to succeed. Her presence serves as a reminder that achieving greatness, whether in sports or government service, requires consistent effort and a commitment to doing one’s best. Moreover, having a young, successful, and relatable figure like Bhaker as the face of the Ministry is a powerful message to employees about the importance of youth, innovation, and hard work in driving progress.

BCCI Many posts and articles on the BCCI. Telling what they need to do or the more polite ones saying they need to think about their situation. Seems like loads of money is being thrown at players who don't like the long form of cricket. They seem to do better in the limited overs. And yes, player are gods when anoited by the BCCI. Not sure if othre players around the world will become Gods. There is some requirement for them to stay grounded I guess, especially in an egalitarian society like Australia. Time will tell if BCCI take on all this kefferful to heart or goes about it's business as nothing has happened. What characteristics are you looking in your sporting team? Why is the BCCI different from the rest of the world cricket bodies? Thoughts?

The BCCI has rejected the PCB’s hybrid model proposal for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The model suggested Pakistan’s matches be held in Dubai instead of India due to security concerns. The PCB also proposed a similar arrangement for the 2026 T20 World Cup, but the BCCI firmly opposed it, asserting India has no security issues for hosting international events. This decision raises uncertainties about the Champions Trophy, with the PCB continuing to seek security guarantees for future ICC events. #Dekho #BCCI #PCB #ICCChampionsTrophy #HybridModel #CricketNews #IndiaPakistan

Addressing the Misguided Petition Against RayGun and Anna Meares It's perplexing to see the criticism directed at RayGun and Anna Meares OAM OLY in the recent petition circulating online. Australians have historically celebrated athletes like Eddie the Eagle and Eric the Eel, appreciating their spirit and participation in the Olympics. So why is RayGun, who embodies that same spirit, being judged so harshly when many do not fully understand the sport itself. It’s crucial to remember that the Olympic Games are about more than just winning; they celebrate the courage to compete. Moreover, the petition targeting Anna Meares is particularly troubling. As the Chef de Mission, Meares does not have a role in selecting team members. The selection process is managed by the National Sporting Organisation, which decides who competes based on their selection criteria. Meares' role is to support the team in her capacity as a leader and manager, not to make individual selections. The attempt to blame Meares in this petition reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of the structure of the Australian Olympic Committee and how the team is chosen. This kind of criticism not only undermines Meares' reputation but also discredits the entire Australian Olympic team. While free speech is a right everyone should have, this petition crosses the line. It’s both disturbing and un-Australian to see such baseless attacks on our athletes. Criticising someone like Anna Meares not only targets her but also reflects poorly on every Olympian who has dedicated themselves to representing Australia. The anonymity of those behind the petition speaks volumes about their intentions. If these critics truly believe they could do better, they should step forward and prove it, rather than hiding behind pseudonyms and issuing unfounded accusations. In summary, it is important to respect and support our athletes and understand the roles and processes involved in the Olympic selection. Constructive criticism is welcome, but it should be informed and respectful.
The AOC has condemned an anonymous online petition attacking Australian Olympic Team member, breaking competitor Rachael Gunn as vexatious, misleading and bullying. The AOC has written to change.org which has published the petition demanding it be immediately withdrawn. AOC CEO, Mr Carroll says the petition contains numerous falsehoods designed to engender hatred against an athlete who was selected in the Australian Olympic Team through a transparent and independent qualification event and nomination process.

The #NRL grand final is just around the corner. I found this article really interesting as it explores why just two clubs have won 9 premierships between them over the past two decades. Simple conclusion - free markets, in terms of player movements and trade, allow for a market concentration of power.
Why just three teams keep winning the NRL title
