Meet Andrew and Brittany. Andrew was diagnosed with HPV-related throat cancer in 2019 after noticing a lump on his neck. He has since developed a rare airways disease due to radiation for #headandneckcancer and can no longer eat orally, only liquid through his PEG tube. Brittany, Andrew’s daughter, is an ambassador for #HANCA and the pair is keen to start a conversation around #HPV and #HNC, ensuring all Australians are aware that HPV does not only cause cervical cancer, it causes 70% of Tonsil and Base of Tongue Cancers. With a vaccine now available for all Australian high school children, there is hope that other families will not have to go through what Andrew and Brittany’s family has. Help Andrew and Brittany start a conversation about: 🧣 the increasing incidence of HPV related cancers in healthy, non-smokers aged 35 – 55. 🧣 70% of Tonsil and Base of Tongue Cancers (Oropharyngeal Cancer) now caused by HPV 🧣 the importance of protecting children with the HPV vaccine Buy a Patchwork Girl scarf today and wear it your way this May, to help HANCA continue to support, educate and advocate for those living with Head and Neck Cancer: https://lnkd.in/gEfKt-Dn #HPVvaccine #scarfstories #startaconversation #TonsilCancer #ThroatCancer #Pegtube #tracheostomy #TongueCancer #OralCancer #HeadandNeckCancer #HPVrelatedcancer #changingfaceofHNC #silkscarf #fundraiser #cancerfundraiser #MothersDay #Heirloom #generations #changingfaceofHNC #ThroatCancer #OralCancer #mothersdaygift

This week is Cervical Screening Awareness Week! Cervical cancer is the 14th most common cancer in females in the UK, with 2 incredibly effective methods of prevention: HPV Vaccination and Cervical Screening. This week I urge women and those with a cervix to engage in material shared by the NHS, Macmillan Cancer Support, Cancer Research UK (CRUK), and your local health and community centres. Cervical Screening Awareness Week encourages those at risk of developing cervical cancer to take the time to find out more about why screening exists, how the process works, and what the risks are if you don’t attend your regular screens. The aim is not to enforce or scare people with statistics and quotes, but rather inform using real-life experiences. Information shared by charities and health boards is there to tell readers of the ease of the process, and things you can do before, during and after your screening that can improve your comfort, decrease anxiety or worry and ultimately improve the overall experience. Macmillan cancer support has an FAQ page on their website dedicated to cervical screening, as well as an online community where you can ask your own question and converse with those with similar experiences or worries. This is available all year round, but is highlighted during this important week. During this week please take the time to catch up with your friends and family who should be attending their cervical screening, and make sure each individual knows the wide range of physical and virtual support available to them! 🫶🏻 #cervicalscreeningawarenessweek #cervicalcancer #cervicalscreening

For me, gender-neutral HPV vaccination is personal. Growing up in Nigeria, I’ve seen how preventable cancers have taken a toll on families. We’ve long thought HPV is just a women’s issue, but that’s not true. Men are affected too, and knowing that something as simple as a vaccine could change lives makes this an urgent priority. When I heard about the global push for equal access to this vaccine, it struck me deeply. It’s about fairness—protecting everyone, no matter their gender, and preventing unnecessary suffering in the future. #HPV #Prevention #MensHealth #WomensHealth #ProtectOurFuture
Our call for global gender-neutral HPV vaccination was launched yesterday at the World Cancer Congress in Geneva. It's a joint initiative led by GAMH and NOMAN is an Island: Race to End HPV and supported by 22 organisations, three of which (World Federation of Public Health Associations, European Cancer Organisation and MENA Coalition for HPV Elimination) were represented by speakers at the launch meeting. If you weren't there, a video of the meeting is available here: https://lnkd.in/eB3qDb7p. This is a crucial step in the right direction. The focus on Gender Neutral Vaccination is a no brainer! It is a public health matter. We can SAVE LIVES. It WILL save COST down the line. We need to WIN this one ... we need to vaccinate boys and girls. WE ARE ONE community. Let's focus on affordability so that we can achieve equitable access for ALL countries, ALL populations, ALL genders #LeaveNoOneBehind #ClosetheEquityGap #GVN #HPV Cancer Alliance (South Africa) Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) World Health Organization Peter Baker Nomonde Mbatani Rakiya Saidu Garron Gsell Andrew Oberholzer Torsten Koehler Yvette Raphael Wim Vandevelde Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance Dr. Nizam Uddin Ahmed Liza Barrie peter ng'ola owiti

What I’ve Learnt from Prepping for a 10K Fundraiser (as a someone who doesn’t run) Feel the fear and do it anyway ! Here’s why: 1. Commitment to Yourself Matters: While telling everyone online adds a delightful layer of ✨accountability✨, self-trust is built by sticking to your word and your commitments. Do what you say you’re going to do, especially when no one is watching ! 2. There Will Never Be a “Perfect Time”: Whether it’s “too hot,” “too cold,” or “too nice a day to ruin with a run”. Waiting for the “right” moment will leave you waiting forever. Run in all conditions — literally and figuratively. 3. You’ll Surprise Yourself: You’ll be amazed how far you can go once you take that first step. With a great support network, you can go even further ! Six weeks ago, I could barely breathe while running—now I can sing (badly🫢) while I run ! — I’m committed to Cervical Cancer Prevention, personally and professionally. With an effective vaccine and accessible screening options, like home-test HPV kits from Daye, I know Cervical Cancer will be a thing of the past - I’m just impatient and would like to get there faster ! Through this fundraiser, CerviHealth will be sharing with hundreds of school children, for the cost of £0.00 (bargain), about the preventability of cervical cancer ! So, on August 26th, I know I’ll be proud of two things: 1. Running my first 10K —something I couldn’t have done without everyone’s support ! 2. CerviHealth’s commitment to providing FREE talks at schools for at least two months (so far -but with continued support, we can reach a six-month goal !) Thank you for reading — especially if you’re currently in the London experiencing the mini heatwave — it’s too hot to think, let alone read ! (Here’s a little overview of the last few weeks of running 👇)
