Cancer Research UK (CRUK) has today published a survey detailing the experiences of the UK clinical research workforce over the previous 18 months. The findings are concerning, with 74% of those surveyed saying it’s become harder to deliver research in a timely manner in the last 18 months. 69% told us it was more difficult to meet recruitment targets. Insights from the survey build on those gleaned from Longer, Better Lives, our manifesto for cancer research and care, and also show that without intervention, we could be on the cusp of an exodus of talent. We cannot accept this and it’s why Cancer Research UK is calling on policymakers to ensure that clinical research remains a priority issue for the post-election UK Government. https://lnkd.in/efFrZxWR

We’ve published our annual report and accounts, showcasing key milestones and successes achieved throughout the 2023/24 financial year. Some of these successes include: 🗞️ An innovative £42m prostate cancer screening trial, co-funded by us and Prostate Cancer UK to find ways of detecting the country’s most common male cancer earlier. 🗞️ Our research invests in foundational underpinning science, facilities, talent and capacity building across the health and care workforce which makes the country and science superpower. Our Clinical Research Network supported the recruitment of 44 first participants to global studies, and to 558 commercial international studies overall in 2023/24, representing an increase in both measures compared to 2022/23. 🗞️ In 2023/24 we launched our first NIHR ‘Challenge’ funding call, investing £50 million into research to tackle inequalities in maternity care. 🗞️ Following the results from an NIHR-funded study, the UK Government has approved the use of digital pathology to help speed up analysis of cancer screening samples. What a year 2023-24 was for the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) and I really enjoyed working on this Annual Report with my great team. There's so many ways the NIHR is making a difference. Our foreword by Lucy Chappell and Gail Marzetti sets out how the NIHR is delivering: 👊 Impact: NIHR research saves lives and improves the quality of life of the public, enhancing resilience and productivity 🤗 Inclusion: NIHR research identifies areas of under-representation, builds research capacity with communities and researchers, and collaborates with the public to deliver evidence-based solutions that address health and care inequalities 🌟 Innovation: Health and care research powers the UK's life science sector and technical advantage 💰 Investment: NIHR research drives economic returns, inward investment and economic growth. For every £1 invested in NIHR research, society receives over £13 of returns Please do give the report a read and find out how we're improving the health & wealth of the nation through research!

The Power of Clinical Trials in the Fight Against Cancer. Clinical trials are a beacon of hope for cancer patients worldwide. For over 20 years Calian has been providing high quality clinical research services. These trials play a critical role in developing new treatments, improving existing therapies and ultimately finding a cure. Here's why Clinical Trials Matter: 1. Innovative Treatments: Clinical trials give patients access to cutting-edge therapies that aren't available to the public yet. 2. Personalized Medicine: Trials help identify which treatments work best for specific types of cancer and individual patient profiles. 3. Advancing Science: Every participant contributes to scientific knowledge, paving the way for future breakthroughs. 4. Improving Outcomes: Many standard treatments today are available because of successful clinical trials in the past. My dear friend Sindy and former Calian colleague is currently participating in a clinical trial as part of her treatment journey and helping to advance medicine for future generations. Here is her story. #ClinicalTrials #CancerResearch
