As I walked around the #FHA2024 yearly event at Expo, galore of food from Singapore, SEA and Europe were showcased. Also, many food products use plastics in their packaging. That is a lot of waste being produced in an industry in which food is a staple need. According to UNDP: "The packaging sector is the largest generator of single-use plastic waste in the world. Approximately 36% of all plastics produced are used in packaging. This includes single-use plastic food and beverage containers, 85% of which end up in landfills or as mismanaged waste." There's no doubt some businesses that are using recyclable materials or working towards sustainable sourcing and materials. But unfortunately still far and in-between from what I see at the fair. However, one brand "Spritzer" a Malaysian natural mineral water that uses BPA-free PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) plastic materials that are lightweight, consume fewer resources to manufacture, and with enhanced capabilities to save space to promote recyclability after use. You may read about their story here: https://lnkd.in/g-vzqpj5 I wish to see more businesses moving into "sustainable" materials vs plastics in their packaging and looking into other friendlier materials vs plastics. ♻️Look into the way consumers consume products and find ways to recycle the packaging rather than throwing it away. Think #circularity ♻️ Find other materials to use in packaging that is friendlier to the environment ♻️ Relook at packaging using plastic and is there a way to market or sell your product in a different way that is better for the environment. I end this post with this hurtful video to watch... which shows how bad your plastic can end up in the ocean for a turtle. 😢 #sustainability #notoplastics #sustainabilitystorytelling Get Hired by LinkedIn News Asia Get Hired by LinkedIn News

#sustainability BEHAVIOR IS AS DIVERSE AS IT IS INCONSISTENT The popular festival Rock Werchter in Belgum rightly promotes their Go Green policy: “… special attention for campsites, too much garbage left behind … we endorse circularity … join us on the road to zero waste.” Visitors could get a recycle kit and free drinks for full garbage bags. The organizers with these lofty initiatives must have been very disappointed. Their visitors appeared largely oblivious to their sustainability initiatives. The campsites were left with an incredible amount of garbage, which the organizers and their volunteers were apparently supposed to clean behind the backs of the visitors. By force of habit, we have perhaps come to believe that this is ‘normal’ after a rock festival. I see nothing normal in it however. It makes my hope and confidence in civil environmental care plummet to a minimum. Many people talk about #sustainable living and not flying and no meat and no car driving and no fossil fuels and no #co2, but appear quite willing to pollute their direct surroundings in a gruesome and entirely avoidable manner with everything including oil-based plastics. It is no different along roadsides and in parks. Saying that something is important appears not the same as acting on it. I view sustainability as an integral notion with many different practical aspects, such as #renewability, #recycling, #waste reduction, #environmental care, #biodiversity and #energy saving. The common factor is a mentality, a way of living and caring for your surroundings and environment. The various practical aspects come together in this mentality, and I fear that people who carelessly throw their garbage on the ground will not direct their behavior towards #energysaving and #co2reduction. For me, sustainability starts and ends with not polluting your own nest and that of other living creatures.

https://lnkd.in/dK2JQG7C Time to stop plastic. 1. Reduce plastic usage: One of the most effective ways to stop plastic pollution in the ocean is to reduce the amount of plastic we use in our daily lives. Avoid single-use plastics such as plastic bags, water bottles, and straws. Instead, opt for reusable alternatives like cloth bags, stainless steel water bottles, and biodegradable straws. 2. Proper waste disposal: Ensure that all the plastic waste is disposed of properly, in designated recycling bins. This prevents plastic from ending up in landfills or finding its way into the ocean. Educate yourself and others about local recycling programs and take advantage of them. 3. Support and encourage recycling initiatives: Advocate for stronger recycling policies and support organizations that work towards improving recycling and waste management systems. This includes supporting companies that use recycled materials and encouraging others to do the same. 4. Beach cleanups: Organize or participate in local beach cleanups to remove plastic debris that may have washed ashore. These cleanups help prevent plastics from entering the ocean and also raise awareness about the issue. 5. Promote sustainable fishing practices: Support sustainable fishing practices that minimize the use of plastic gear and other harmful materials that can end up in the ocean. This can help reduce the overall plastic pollution caused by the fishing industry. 6. Support policies and legislation: Advocate for policies and legislation that ban or regulate single-use plastics, especially those which are most commonly found in the ocean, such as plastic bags and microbeads. Encourage your local representatives and government to adopt such measures. 7. Spread awareness: Educate others about the impact of plastic pollution on the oceans and its inhabitants. Share information and facts through social media, presentations, or events to raise awareness about the issue and inspire others to take action. 8. Support and fund research: Contribute to organizations and researchers who are actively studying and finding solutions to plastic pollution in the ocean. Supporting scientific research helps to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to this global problem. Remember, collective action is key. Encourage your friends, family, and community to join in these efforts to reduce and stop plastic pollution in the ocean. #marineconservation Arivo Fz LLC Arivo.online

🇰🇷🌏 After another day with very little progress in Busan, our ⭐️Hero of the Day⭐️ award goes to 🇵🇦 Juan Carlos Monterrey Gómez from Panama - member of the High Ambition Coalition to End Plastic Pollution - for reminding country delegates what’s really at stake during these negotiations. “Plastic pollution is just not a crisis is an assault on our planet, on our people and on our future and yet here we are tiptoeing around the truth sidestepping ambition and ignoring the urgency that demands action. If we fail to deliver a strong binding treaty, we are signing a pact of destruction for our planet and our people.” #inc5 #globalplasticstreaty #busan #himanrights #plasticcrisis #plasticfreefuture Break Free From Plastic Plastic Pollution Coalition

At EPS-foreningen we have started a partnership with Sjømat Norge to map the waste streams of EPS fish boxes in Asia. This will allow us to identify challenges and opportunities for increased recycling of EPS. EPS packaging is widely recycled around the globe. It has more than 50% recycling rate in South Korea and Japan. It is recognised by UN Environment Programme and Ellen MacArthur Foundation as “recycled in practice and at scale” globally. But we shouldn’t rest on our laurels. This is why this partnership will help us find out what can be done to make EPS recycling even more widespread together with the relevant partners in various countries in Asia. EPS is afterall an ideal material for a #circulareconomy. https://lnkd.in/gne4C9h9

💦Story about water At Impact Day festival, Tallinna Vesi conducted a blind taste test to see if people could distinguish between bottled and tap water. 🧪With 630 participants, 2/3 successfully identified the tap water. Those who could tell the difference described tap water as fresher, richer in minerals, and free from plastic taste—better at quenching thirst. ♻️ Though bottled water in Europe is often sourced from springs or mineral reserves, Euromonitor International reports that globally, nearly 60% of bottled water is simply treated tap water. 💸 Additionally, almost 90% of bottled water’s cost goes to producing plastic bottles, transport, and marketing—not the water quality. “Every time you buy bottled water, you’re essentially paying for plastic and its production,” noted Pever. 💦At our events, we Jolos - Full Spectrum Creative Agency prioritize serving tap or filtered water to avoid bottled water.
