What is the meaning of DEI initiative❓ Diversity, equity and inclusion. Diversity, equity and inclusion are three different but interconnected concepts. They work together to create an environment of respect and fairness. It involves initiatives promoting the equal access, opportunity, employment and sense of belonging of underrepresented people in the workplace. The latest diversity, equity, and inclusion domino to fall is also the largest, as retail colossus Walmart confirmed that it is scaling back or eliminating related initiatives, including no longer using the term DEI in official communications, reviewing grants to Pride events, and not renewing the racial equity center ... In a significant shift, retail giant Walmart has confirmed scaling back its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, including eliminating the term DEI from official communications and reviewing Pride event grants. While anti-DEl activist Robby Starbuck claimed his threatened boycott influenced this decision, Walmart states these changes were already under review. This move follows similar DEI reversals at numerous major companies including Boeing, Toyota, Ford, and Target, with the latter having removed Pride Month merchandise from about 2,000 stores in June.

A little bit of kindness goes a long way! 2 years ago Kindness Day was born when a Circle K colleague in Europe asked Hans-Olav Høidahl at a Townhall what the company was doing about harassment. Like anything in life if you don’t ask the question you’ll never know. Circle K then asked their store teams across Europe and were surprised at the extent of the problem. We knew we had to take action and Kindness Day was launched. 3 years later Kindness Day has become a week long campaign, Kindness Week. I am so thrilled that The Maxol Group and Mr. PRICE Branded Bargains partnered with us in the campaign this year, and I hope many more retailers will get involved next year. Thank you Brian Donaldson and Edel McSorley for leading the way for other retailers to get involved. Research was conducted and kindly supported by Retail Ireland. The results supported what our teams in Circle K have been telling us. • 21% of retail employees in Ireland experience abusive or inappropriate language or behaviour at work on at least a weekly basis, with over two-thirds (68%) reporting having experienced some form of abuse from customers. • Almost three quarters (74%) of Irish retail staff have witnessed abusive behaviour directed towards a colleague. What was really encouraging and positive is that 83% of retail workers reported the vast majority of customers are kind and respectful. We are very grateful in Circle K to our loyal customers who treat our teams with kindness and respect every day. Kindness always wins! #KindnessWeek #SupportRetailWorkers #CircleKIreland RTE published a great article today: 20% of retail workers suffer abusive behaviour every week https://lnkd.in/eT4AavNp

🗣️When Tabitha Brown speaks, the world listens. Known for her warmth and wisdom, the actress, entrepreneur, and vegan influencer recently addressed Target’s decision to scale back its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives—and the potential backlash from the Black community. In an Instagram video, Brown urged her followers to think twice about boycotting Target, warning that such actions could inadvertently harm Black-owned and minority-owned businesses that rely on partnerships with the retail giant. “Boycotting Target would do more harm to the small businesses in our community,” one social media commenter echoed, reflecting a sentiment shared by many supporters of Brown’s message. The argument is simple: If we stop shopping at Target, we’re not just withholding dollars from a corporation; we’re also pulling the rug out from under Black entrepreneurs who have fought hard for shelf space in a major retailer. But not everyone is convinced. Others argue that continuing to support a company that deprioritizes DEI sends the wrong message. “Our biggest problem with our community is we crave to be included in a game they don’t want us in,” another commenter pointed out. This perspective calls for the Black community to build its own independent ecosystems—businesses that don’t depend on corporations with questionable commitments to diversity. This debate highlights a deeper dilemma: How do we balance supporting Black-owned businesses while holding corporations accountable?

Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day: A Sweet Act of Kindness 🍧 Every year, Ben & Jerry’s turns their love for ice cream into a celebration of gratitude with Free Cone Day. This tradition, which began in 1979 as a way to thank customers for their support, is now a global event that spreads joy with a simple yet meaningful gesture – offering a free scoop to anyone who visits their stores. Here’s why Free Cone Day is a shining example of kindness in CX: 1️⃣ A Thank You That Feels Personal: By giving away free ice cream, Ben & Jerry’s sends a heartfelt message: “We appreciate you.” 2️⃣ Fostering Connection: Free Cone Day creates a sense of community as people come together to enjoy a shared experience. It’s a reminder that kindness and generosity can bring people closer. 3️⃣ Accessible to All: No purchase necessary, no strings attached—just a genuine invitation to enjoy a moment of delight. Ben & Jerry’s proves that acts of kindness, no matter how small, can create lasting positive memories and build strong customer loyalty. Have you experienced a brand going above and beyond like this? #CustomerExperience #KindnessInCX #FreeConeDay #BenAndJerrys #CXFestival

Ya know, it’s exhausting seeing performative corporate players jump on the #Pride bandwagon every June, or celebrate small black owned businesses when their products benefits their shelves.... only to turn around and quietly remove DEI policies or backpedal when it’s no longer convenient. We see you. Let’s shift the focus. Let’s celebrate the small businesses and brands that not only say they’ll do better but actually follow through. Need a corporate example? How about Ben & Jerry's? Consistent values. Real action. It's actually time to hold brands accountable. Anyone here want to share small businesses that we can support instead?

On this #BlackFriday, I wanted to remind everyone to not be fooled by ad campaigns claiming to be celebrating so-called #GreenFriday. No amount of consumerism, even on more sustainable products where your money may (or more likely may not) go to planting a tree, will replace the need to act less like a consumer and more like a citizen to make any meaningful change in this system of exploitation of resources. Rather than Black Friday or Green Friday, I propose today as Citizen Friday.
