⏳️....and the countdown continues....⏳️
6️⃣ more days til bp opens up application for our early careers internships and full-time graduate positions for our 2025 class...
Here to drop 🎤 some super lit 🔥knowledge to help you prepare for the fall and upcoming career fairs/events, and how you show up with a prospective employer. No cap. frfr.
1. First impressions 👀 are important but it's not a make or break 💔. Employers aren't asking you to show up suit 🕴 and tie 👔. But we do expect presentable, polished, and wear a smile size Extra Large 😁!
2. Ask yourself, what's your 🤷♂️ intent? Are you coming to the event knowing which employers are going to be there? Or are you just there for the drip. Maybe both? Have planned your top 🥇🥈🥉 employers that you want to visit ready to go and make your way there as soon as you can.
3. Your "elevator 🛗 pitch." Everyone has experienced the awkwardness 😅 of standing around waiting for a recruiter to be available to talk. You're wondering how much ⏲️ time you're going to get. You're playing the conversation in your head a million times. Start simple, my name is Jessie Dengsavang, XYZ major, super senior, interested in XYZ roles...
4. Know what you're seeking🙉. Have you done your research 👓 on the types of roles your interested in? Sure the company is important, but really you want to find a role of interest for you! Do your homework 📝, come prepared to discuss what roles you are seeking because chances are you'll learn that either that employer doesn't have it, can refer you to another recruiter OR you hit the 🔨 nail on the head and speaking directly with someone from that business.
5. Verbal 🗣 content. Pick out 4-5 examples from your resume that provide concrete evidence of your experience(s). Be able to verbally tailor those experiences for the role, company, and person your speaking to.
For example: You're speaking to a trader at bp. You probably don't want to talk about your 🚶♀️Walking Elective course you absolutely crushed for 1 credit. Talk about stocks 📈, the market, business courses, a project related to commodities, reporting tools 📊 you've used.
6. Be mindful 🧠and purposeful 💡. There may be hundreds of students all gathered around a company. You decide if you're going to shove your way to the front or just come back later. Be aware of timing and keep your eye on the employers booth. Even if it's a quick intro. You may get 30 seconds. You might get 10 minutes. Get your introduction in, stand out, decide if you want more...
7. Keep track 📃 of who you talk to. LinkedIn is a powerful tool. How do you stand out or be memorable among thousands of students. You all will be doing the same thing. Shaking hands 🤝, introducing 👋 yourself, and then walking away to the next booth. Send a follow up message 📧 to people you've met. Maybe ask if they have some time to answer a few more questions! Worth a shot!
Get after it this fall!
Let's gooooooo!!!!
