It was an incredible experience to attend the “Unveiling Mammoth” on May 7, 2024, in Reykjavik, Iceland. The Sustainable Markets Initiative kicked off our "Seeing is Believing" series program at the "Unveiling Mammoth". The SMI’s Seeing is Believing series, inspired by His Majesty King Charles III, aims to allow its CEO members to engage in immersive experiences and real-world environments to gain a deeper level of understanding of the urgency and opportunity of a sustainable future. The key takeaways for guests were: -- 18 months after groundbreaking, the infrastructure of Climeworks’ latest and to-date largest direct air capture and storage plant ‘Mammoth’ has been successfully put in place, with 90% of the systems operational, including that of storage partner Carbfix. -- Climeworks is now ready to add the last part of the plant, its CO₂ collector containers, which will filter the CO₂ out of the air. The plant's first 12 CO₂ collector containers have already arrived onsite, and preparations for the first CO₂ removal are underway. Located in Iceland, Mammoth is an order of magnitude larger than Climeworks’ previous plant ‘Orca’ and, therefore, an important milestone in Climeworks’ journey to reach megaton capacity by 2030 and gigaton scale by 2050. Next, Climeworks will start building a megaton hub in the U.S. – with valuable operational experience derived from its now two commercial plants in Iceland. 🌱 Sustainable Thursdays: Leading the Circular Economy in Alpine Industrial Parks 🌱 On our Sustainable Thursdays, this week we highlight the innovative ECOLE project (Eco Industrial Park Network for the Alpine Regions Leveraging Smart and Circular Economy), an initiative that pioneers the transformation of industrial parks into sustainable, resilient hubs across the Alpine region. 🌍 Co-funded by the EU through the Interreg Alpine Space programme, ECOLE brings together industries, public authorities, and universities to implement circular economy principles. Together with 11 partners from 5 countries, we are working to make industrial parks greener, more resource-efficient, and better prepared for climate and economic challenges. From energy efficiency to waste reduction, each ECOLE pilot project is designed to push the boundaries of sustainability in industry. For example, the COSELAG Industrial Park in Trieste is developing a cutting-edge platform to share energy demand and reduce waste. Meanwhile, in Weiz, Austria, the Innovation Centre W.E.I.Z. has implemented solar energy systems and innovative CO2 monitoring. As part of this initiative, TUMint has been instrumental in identifying short, medium, and long-term measures that industrial parks can implement to meet the requirements of the Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) framework. One of the most important measures we've identified is the establishment of a strong park management entity or governing body, which sets circular economy principles as a priority and ensures their implementation through industrial synergies, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building. Moreover, TUMint has developed a monitoring and evaluation tool to track progress on key performance indicators (KPIs) across park management, environmental, social, and economic dimensions. This tool empowers our partners to assess their current status and monitor their transition to becoming fully eco-industrial parks. 📊 ♻️ Want to learn more? Check out the ECOLE project and how it’s accelerating the circular economy in Alpine industrial parks here: https://lnkd.in/evb_eaVq 🌱 Join us every Thursday as we share more insights and innovations driving the transition to a sustainable future! #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #EcoIndustrialParks #SustainableThursdays #Innovation #GreenTech #TUMint #ECOLEProject

Hej allesammen! Let’s talk grønt! 🌱 Have you ever heard about “Genbrug”? 🧐 Besides its translation of “recycling”, in Denmark a Genbrug is a place where you bring stuff that you don’t need anymore and you can take in exchange other objects that you are looking for. You can find everything you might need, from clothes to furniture, and even electronics or bikes. 🌍 Such #recycling place is open to everyone and it can be easily found outside cities. There are also smaller Genbrugs inside the cities, but the variety of things you can bring or find is quite limited. ♻️ Does such place exist in your country? #sustainable #climateaction #green UN City Copenhagen Green Report

The summer vacation is over – but not the summer. Two Prodikt (CarbonZero) boys being back after vacation are looking back at the past summer activities and what interesting and inspiring activities that are in the pipeline. So, what did you do during this summer and what do you look forward to the coming months? Carsten Svensson >> This summer we went to the Faroe Islands out in the North Atlantic and we spent a week hiking around and experienced a fantastic Nordic landscape and even really good weather. I can really recommend the Faroe Islands as a tourist destination. Somewhat off the beaten tracks. The coming months I really look forward to some great events coming up where we will participate - like BIM World Copenhagen 2024 (September 18-19) and 3rd Annual ESG and Data Management Real Estate Forum in Stockholm (September 26-27). Johan Wall >> We mainly spent some great weeks with family and friends. We went to the fantastic Swedish west coast and the deep forests of the region Småland. I enjoyed an unhealthy amount of seafood and I still long for more! I am indeed looking forward to providing service to our existing customers and we have some new ambitious project clients to onboard after the summer. We see an increasing demand for climate calculations of refurbishment projects and our methodology is becoming more and more popular by the day. Moreover, we have an exciting update of Prodikt coming soon (Next Generation) and its new features will be of great benefit for all our users – both old and new. #Summer2024 #Sustainability #Builings #Climatesmart #Property #Prodikt #CarbonZero #Climatecalculations

A recent study conducted by a German pharmaceutical company Deutsche Medz analysed 48 of Europe’s most visited and densely populated cities, evaluating their cleanliness based on several parameters. The criteria included air and drinking water quality, the percentage of green spaces, the quality of these #greenareas, and satisfaction with waste management. The cleanest cities in Europe, such as Helsinki, Stockholm, and Reykjavik, stand out for their clean air, excellent water quality, and abundance of green spaces. These characteristics not only improve physical health but also contribute to the mental well-being of their residents. Air and drinking water quality were highlighted as key factors for public health. Cities with low air pollution and high-quality drinking water, like Reykjavik and Helsinki, reduce the risk of respiratory diseases and promote overall well-being. #Greenspaces enhance the quality of life by encouraging recreation, physical activity, and stress reduction. Cities like #Leipzig and #Stockholm offer extensive #greenareas, significantly improving the quality of life for their inhabitants. #Valencia ranks 6th among the cleanest cities in Europe, with a notable score for the quality of its green spaces (88.1 out of 100), a green space percentage of 41%, and high satisfaction with waste management (81.4 out of 100). #Madrid is ranked 15th, excelling in drinking water quality (91 out of 100) and receiving a good score for waste management (73.6 out of 100), alongside offering 27% of its area as green spaces.
