Loaves & Fishes tackles two problems with one solution. The local nonprofit operates as a food rescue, collecting excess food from grocery stores and other sites to deliver to over 100 agencies that help those in need. This process aims to eliminate food waste while addressing food insecurity in Greenville County. “At the end of the day, it’s moving surplus food from where it’s not needed to where it is needed,” said Tessa May, executive director of Loaves & Fishes. In 2023, Loaves & Fishes rescued approximately 2.7 million pounds of food. May said the amount is equivalent to more than $9 million worth of food redistributed into the community.

As Atmos Energy continues Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities, we are extremely proud to partner with these local food banks and further their mission in the areas we serve. The following food banks are among the local organizations Atmos Energy is supporting. • 6 Stones, Euless, TX $30,000 • CEC (Community Enrichment Center), North Richland Hills, TX $10,000 • Midwest Food Bank, Haltom City, TX $5,000 Hunger Action Month, a national campaign established by Feeding America in 2008, aims to educate the public about the widespread issue of hunger and encourage individuals, communities, and businesses to act by volunteering, donating, or advocating for policy change. Hunger Awareness Month is an important opportunity for communities to come together and make a positive impact on the lives of those struggling with hunger and food insecurity. Beat the Heat: How You Can Help Keep People Hydrated This Summer ☀️ The summer sun is here, and with it comes the importance of staying hydrated. Unfortunately, not everyone has easy access to clean drinking water during this scorching season. While financial contributions to water charities are commendable, there are simple, impactful ways we can all make a difference right now. Here's how YOU can be a hydration hero: Carry a reusable water bottle: Keep it filled and offer a sip to those who might need it - delivery workers, construction crews, anyone visibly struggling in the heat. Organize a hydration drive: Partner with colleagues or your local community center to collect donations of bottled water for those in need. Spread awareness: Share information on the importance of hydration and resources available in your area for those struggling to access clean water. Support local businesses: Patronize restaurants and cafes that offer free water refills or discounts on reusable water bottles. Every little bit counts! Let's work together to ensure everyone stays cool, hydrated, and healthy this summer. #SummerHydration #EveryCupCounts #CommunityCare #SmallActsBigImpact #HydrationHero Looking for ways to make your water more appealing? The rising costs of living paired with the expiration of some Pandemic benefits have intensified food insecurity across southwestern Pennsylvania as families work to meet basic needs. Calls to our PA 211 Southwest resource hotline has seen a 50% increase in food assistance inquiries over the past year. Between 2021 and 2022, the annual survival budget for a family of four in Pennsylvania rose to nearly $89,000 from $80,000. “This budget reflects only the basics and no extras,” says Jen Schuchart, director of meeting basic needs. “Folks who are working full-time or multiple jobs are having to make these difficult choices of whether to pay rent or feed themselves and their children. That’s 40% of our five-county region.” Read more to learn how United Way and local nonprofit organizations are working hand-in-hand to fight food insecurity in our community: https://lnkd.in/ez6myb4Y.

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, anytime, and in any weather. I was proud to have worked with Jill A. Pall 🌱 and The Aliver Foundation to secure three climate-controlled AED enclosures to be deployed in some of Pittsburgh’s most well-visited park locations: Schenley Plaza, Schenley Oval, and Mellon Park. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is proud to support this initiative. Learn more about the Foundation’s lifesaving work: https://lnkd.in/eXCJTWGt
Our awesome ambassadors Dante, Patty, and Mike were out in full force yesterday in Pennsylvania delivering very special holiday donations to the communities of Pittsburgh, McKeesport, and White Oak. These six all weather, climate controlled, tamper proof AED enclosures and devices will be installed in public parks this month. While we hope they will never need to be used, knowing they will be accessible 24/7/365 to save lives is everything. We can't wait to share more about these parks and why this equipment is incredibly meaningful, so please stay tuned. #suddencardiacarrest #sca #cardiacarrest #cpr #cprsaveslives #aed #thealiverfoundation #hearthealth #pittsburgh #mckeesport #whiteoak #pennsylvania #PA Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy City of McKeesport White Oak Borough City of Pittsburgh Allegheny County
