There is something for everyone in this magnum opus of the subcontinent’s northeast. The timeless rock carvings of Unakoti, the serene island of Majuli, and the sacred Moidams are some of the many underrated gems that deserve to be embraced for their vibrant artistry, cultural value, and aesthetics. While the first two have been gaining some attention on popular media platforms, the latter arrived on the global tourism platter with its recent entry into the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. At the 46th World Heritage Conference held in New Delhi, UNESCO acknowledged the significance of the Moidams for their historical and cultural values and declared it the 43rd UNESCO Heritage Site from India, the first from Northeast India. From food to fabric, from temples to tombs, from bridges to burials, from legends to rituals, from islands and their identities- the world of the Northeast is truly ‘terra-incognita’. Visit Basavakalyan: A short drive from Bidar, Basavakalyan is historically significant and home to several temples and a fort. It’s associated with the 12th-century social reformer Basavanna.    2. Guru Nanak Jhira Sahib: Legend has it that Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru, created a sweet water stream here during his visit. This Gurudwara complex is a major Sikh pilgrimage site and a serene retreat. 3. Bidar Fort Complex: Explore the majestic Bahmani Sultanate fort on the city's outskirts.
