We are devastated to report the killing of four water engineers and workers in Gaza, who were collaborating with our strategic partner, the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU). The men were on their way to repair water infrastructure in Khuzaa, east of Khan Younis, when their clearly marked vehicle was bombed, despite prior coordination with Israeli authorities.
Adding to this tragedy, we mourn the loss of two colleagues from our valued partner, Juzoor. They are Dr. Ahmad Al-Najar and midwife Laila Jneid, who were killed by Israeli airstrikes over the weekend while providing life-saving health care in Gaza.
Oxfam Australia stands in solidarity with CMWU, Juzoor, their partners, and the families of all the victims. Aid workers and civilians are NOT a target. Attacking aid workers is a war crime.
👉We urgently call for a permanent ceasefire and demand that the Australian Government end all arms transfers to Israel.

🚨A Cry from Al-Sireeha: A Humanitarian Tragedy Demanding Urgent Intervention :
The village of Al-Sireeha in Sudan’s Gezira state has faced an unspeakable tragedy. Early Friday morning, armed forces launched a violent attack on the village, leaving 124 people dead and over 200 injured. The village was home to unarmed civilians, who suddenly found themselves under fire from heavy weaponry positioned on high buildings. Over 150 villagers were taken to nearby detention centers, and the aftermath left homes looted and properties destroyed.
This unprovoked attack is more than a local tragedy; it’s a grave violation of basic human rights. Support is urgently needed to stop these atrocities and hold those responsible accountable. Medical aid and relief are also essential for the injured and families who have lost everything.
What happened in Al-Sireeha is a call to our collective conscience, reminding us all of the human right to safety and dignity.

There is nowhere left to go in Gaza. Rafah was one of the few spots left where humanitarian access was possible, and there was still obstruction at the border. Over one million Palestinians are there and they are being told to "evacuate" without clear instructions while facing indiscriminate bombing; they cannot leave through the border which is shut deliberately. If they move, they face death by starvation or dehydration since the water plants have been bombed too.
An invasion of Rafah will have catastrophic consequences for civilians. This is unacceptable and is a moral stain on the international community's conscience for their failure to prevent such war crimes, human rights violations, and atrocities. Over 35,000 Palestinians are dead, thousands more are missing under the rubble, and 14,000 children have died. 70,000 are injured, including many amputees. Nearly 2 million people out of a population of 2.3 million have been internally displaced.
Both the Israeli government and Hamas must face accountability for their war crimes and human rights violations--that said, there is no solution to this crisis that will arrive through a military campaign alone, and one that indiscriminately targets civilians and civilian infrastructure, making Gaza completely unliveable. There is no excuse for blocking humanitarian aid access while thousands starve to death in the north. There is no justification for any civilians facing violence, insecurity, and a loss of their human rights.
🚨URGENT | ActionAid reacts to the news of the Israeli Forces’ evacuation order for 1.5 million displaced people in #Rafah
"Forcing over a million displaced Palestinians from Rafah to evacuate without a safe destination is not only unlawful but would lead to catastrophic consequences.
Our aid workers are reporting some of the most severe conditions in recent memory with widespread disease, starvation and chaos. Let us be clear, there are no safe zones in Gaza.
The international community must act swiftly to prevent further atrocities and hold themselves as well as the Israeli government to account - if an invasion of Rafah is your “red line” will you do everything possible to stop this imminent attack?”

The safety of civilians is vital during conflicts and other emergencies. Yet humanitarians, who are civilians helping civilians, are facing escalating violence across the globe. Since the beginning of this year, 32 Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers and staff have tragically died or been killed while helping others.
On #InternationalVolunteerDay, we are joining the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC and others to stand in solidarity with the families and colleagues of those who lost their lives. Violence against humanitarian workers must stop. We must #ProtectHumanity.
Targeting hospitals and heavily sick patients in their beds is a grave violation of IHL. Killing and maiming of little children is a grave violation of IHL. Denial of water, electricity, shelter, and humanitarian aid to desperate civilians is a grave violation of IHL. Starving civilians is a grave violation of IHL. Destroying civilian homes is a grave violation of IHL.
We could continue listing all the grave violations of IHL, but is the message being heard by those that have the power to stop this? Despite continuous calls for ceasefire, and calls to states with influence to prevent the killing of civilians, and despite continuous condemning of countless severe violations of IHL, the violence against civilians in Gaza continues with total impunity.
What does it take for this to be stopped?

In such challenging times when swift responses and meaningful synergies are urgently needed in the field, the Protection Cluster partners in Gaza are present through our newly launched “Emergency Protection Responders” model to ensure that safe identification and referral of the most vulnerable cases is taking place without causing harm or revictimization.
"Tents have been wiped out."
Yesterday, we led an assessment to the makeshift site in Khan Younis, #Gaza, where a deadly attack took place on Monday night.
The site, home to about 300 displaced families, was struck by multiple Israeli airstrikes, creating two large craters, killing and injuring people, and leaving some missing under the rubble.
Humanitarian partners identified people with the most urgent needs and mobilized assistance, including distributing shelter materials and essential items, repairing the water well and making protection referrals.
Civilians are protected under international law and are #NotATarget.
Please watch Glenn Greenwald explain how ISRAEL IS KNOWINGLY KILLING FOREIGN AID WORKERS, INCLUDING AMERICANS, in addition to Palestinian women & children: lnkd.in/g4mKYBEC
My fellow Americans, PLEASE wake up. This is not a “war”.
Israel is committing GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING WITH THE WEAPONS WE KEEP GIVING THEM & has now killed OVER 25K WOMEN & CHILDREN (~70% of the dead), according to our own military: lnkd.in/gaMEPKSn
Israel has also orphaned over 30K kids, has destroyed the homes of nearly 1M & is still blocking aid to them, killing them WITH STARVATION, DEHYDRATION, & DISEASE, in addition to U.S. supplied bombs.
Listen to world renowned professor & public policy expert Jeffrey Sachs explain how ISRAEL IS INTENTIONALLY STARVING OVER 1M CHILDREN. He says “the ICJ will find these acts to be genocidal” & “ the U.S. should immediately stop all munitions for this murderous rampage”: lnkd.in/gy-q3rpR
And here is renowned University of Chicago Prof. John Mearsheimer explaining that ISRAEL’S ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO ETHNICALLY CLEANSE BOTH GAZA & THE WEST BANK & get us into a war with Iran, which he says are definitely NOT in our national interest: lnkd.in/g-WcuhSv
In this article, I explain how Israel has always been able to beat Hamas & ensure its security WITHOUT KILLING CHILDREN. Sadly, Israel keeps ignoring this option because its goal is not to beat Hamas, but rather to continue using them & similar groups as a pretext to continue ethnically cleansing more of historic Palestine (that's why Israel helped strengthen Hamas for years). In fact, Israel knows that its indiscriminate brutality will only help Hamas & similar groups recruit: lnkd.in/gY98T9mc
I also cry for the 38 Israeli children & others killed on Oct 7th, but this horrible conflict did NOT start on that day. The proof is the nearly 2300 Palestinian children killed by Israeli soldiers & settlers between 2000 & Oct 2023, including 43 during the 9 months just before 10/7 (names & details on BTselem.org).
Israel has also continued stealing more Palestinian homes & farms in the West Bank EVERY YEAR as part of its 57 year apartheid, & has imposed a brutal blockade of Gaza since 2005. ALL illegal, immoral, & ongoing acts of war.
That's why EVEN the ex-head of Israel’s Shin Bet (their FBI), Ami Ayalon, & ex-Israeli PM & General, Ehud Barak, BOTH saying IF THEY WERE PALESTINIAN THEY WOULD FIGHT ISRAEL BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE THEIR LIBERTY: lnkd.in/guNE7vay
I will keep advocating for nonviolent resistance, but when Palestinians try, IDF soldiers shoot them in the knees, kill them, or at least imprison & beat them. Please read this 2020 Haaretz article titled: '42 Knees in One Day': Israeli Snipers Open Up About Shooting Gaza Protesters: lnkd.in/g4VqQRzs
PLEASE CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES to demand they stop helping Israel kill children, ethnically cleans families, & maintain its brutal apartheid WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS.
5.4.2024 Israeli settlers set fire to occupied West Bank homes
Palestinian news agency Wafa reports that Israeli settlers burned four residential structures in the Ain al-Auja area, north of Jericho in the West Bank.
Mahmoud Ghawanmeh, a Palestinian resident of the community, told Wafa that the settlers sprayed racist slogans on several buildings before setting the fires.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recorded 561 incidents of Israeli settler attacks against Palestinians between October 7 and February 20.
As of January 17, settlers have killed at least eight Palestinians and injured 111, per OCHA’s database. Repeated waves of violence by settlers, often backed by the army, have led to the displacement of 1,208 Palestinians, including 586 children, across 198 households.
Mwatana emphasized in its report that 2023 was not any less severe for Yemeni civilians than previous years of conflict. Civilians have endured various forms of harm due to ongoing violations and assaults by warring parties, including torture, killings in detention, arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, vehicular assaults, sham trials, unfair executions, child recruitment, attacks on vital facilities, obstruction of humanitarian aid, sexual violence, and assaults on personal and public freedoms. Additional atrocities include starving civilians, imposing levies, planting explosives in populated areas, blocking main roads, restricting civilian movement, and looting property.

🔴 More than 10,000 people are estimated to be missing under rubble in Gaza, according to the Palestinian Civil Defense.
🔴PCD added that they are facing enormous challenges in recovering dead bodies, including lack of equipment, heavy machinery and personnel, warning it could take up to three years to retrieve the bodies using the primitive tools they have on hand.
🔴Rising temperatures can accelerate the decomposition of bodies and the spread of disease, warned PCD, appealing to #UN agencies and all relevant stakeholders to urgently intervene to allow the entry of needed equipment, including bulldozers and excavators, to avert a #publichealth catastrophe, facilitate dignified burials, and save the lives of injured people.
#humanitarian update from Oxfam
The 2024 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report is out and the U.S. State Department has listed South Sudan at Tier 3 for yet another year.
According to the report, human traffickers exploit domestic and foreign victims in South Sudan, and traffickers exploit victims from South Sudan abroad. South Sudanese women and girls, particularly those from rural areas or who are internally displaced, are vulnerable to domestic servitude or sexual slavery throughout the country.
Child, early, and forced marriage remains a nationwide problem while government security officers and militia groups continue to forcibly recruit and use child soldiers.

2moThis is truly shocking and heartbreaking, given the significant dangers that aid workers in Gaza are facing. According to ReliefWeb, more than 300 aid workers have lost their lives in Gaza over the past year, marking the highest toll recorded in a single crisis in human history. This underscores the horrific crimes against humanity and the dangers that humanitarians confront. https://reliefweb.int/report/occupied-palestinian-territory/irc-calls-protection-aid-workers-gaza-following-killings-three-partner-staff-just-24-hours#:~:text=Since%20October%202023%2C%20more%20than,highest%20risks%20in%20delivering%20aid.
