The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) 2024 report, "Interwoven Lives, Threads of Hope," emphasizes the urgent need to end inequalities in #SRHR and why the world must recommit to accelerating progress. Despite notable progress—such as a significant decline in global maternal mortality and increased access to contraceptives—persistent disparities remain, especially among the most marginalized. This landmark report reveals that while healthcare access has improved overall, those most marginalized see the least benefit, highlighting a critical area for action. As we mark the 30th anniversary of the #ICPD, the call is clear: We must dismantle systemic barriers and prioritize the health and rights of the most vulnerable. The report calls for data-driven and inclusive healthcare reforms to ensure that no one is left behind. Let's unite to advocate for policies that address these critical inequalities and support a healthier, more equitable world. 1 in 5 … 1 IN 5 school aged girls in Brazil have experienced abuse and 8.8% have been raped. (👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/eMPW8kxD) Last week we marked both #InternationalDayOfTheGirl and #WorldMentalHealth day and I can’t help but reflect on how much more work we need to do. Undiagnosed and unsupported mental health needs, especially for vulnerable populations like #adolescents are a significant driver of death, dis-ease and injury that our #publichealth systems are just not equipped to deal with. I’m so proud of the work Vital Strategies is doing to change this. IT STARTS WITH DATA. Almost half of deaths worldwide go unrecorded and for even more, we have no idea of the cause of death. In Recife #Brazil, teams worked with local partners to analyze over 3.67M government database records - across health, law enforcement & social service sectors - and used #artificialintelligence to identify previously hidden cases of #genderbasedviolence as well as develop systems that identify those at risk before it happens. IT CONTINUES WITH TURNING #DATA2IMPACT THROUGH POLICYCHANGE. In Forteza #Brazil, teams worked with city government and local institutions to create a georeferenced #ChildMentalHealth dashboard that allows public health officials to target resources and interventions in areas where it is needed most - neighborhood by neighborhood! (More 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/erT3C9NZ.) We know that chronic disease (#NCDs) accounts for 74% of global deaths with 86% of these premature deaths occurring in #LMICs - yet it receives only 1-3% of global health funding. Thank you to the Bloomberg Philanthropies #Data4Health initiative, as well as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, City of Fortaleza dos Valos, @MoH Brazil and Geraldo Alckmin for supporting and championing this work that is advancing both #health and #genderequity. #EndGenderBasedViolence #LeaveNoOneBehind #Data4Health #ReimaginingPublicHealth

It's unfortunate to see that in Southeast Asia, the outbreak of Covid-19 could not be contained effectively due to a lack of proper data disaggregation. "In Southeast Asia, the extent to which Covid-19 related health outcomes and socio-economic impacts differ for minorities remains unknown. " Regular collection and disaggregation of data may enable governments, businesses and other stakeholders to take early actions to avoid catastrophic events before they happen and cause further damage. "In the context of a virus outbreak, this blind spot poses a serious public health risk as it may allow pockets of infection go unnoticed and spread more widely." Data has become a formidable tool not only to drive business decisions but also to alleviate the mortality rate among ordinary folk in a life-and-death situation like this. #data #covid19 #southeastasia
