I recently received a thought-provoking quote from my dear friend Stephan Rey. It aligns perfectly with my current findings related to Paul Ehrlich's concept of "magic bullets," as I had just identified a major target when his email arrived. The quote is: "There is no more dangerous mistake than the one that confuses cause with effect." In essence, this quote underscores the critical importance of distinguishing between the cause of a problem and its effects. It is often difficult for new commers to find research gaps in the research already been done. It is hard because most of us do not know the ways to determine gaps. Following are a few ways that can be helpful in this regard. 1. Counterclaiming the research: It involves analysis of the research and identification of areas that we disagree to. In this way, we offer our perspective based on logical explanation and highlight areas where more research is needed. 2. Continuing the research: Sometimes, research leads us to unanswered questions. In this case, we can make our future research a continuation of the work already done. It can provide us with more insights on the topic. 3. Indicating limitations of the research: Each research has some limitations and by pointing out these limitations we can determine areas where additional research is needed for better comprehension of the topic. 4. Raising questions about the research: It is important to ask questions like "What if...?" and "Why didn't they...?" because they reveal the areas that have not been explored completely. Time for a Remedy team profile!  Our Founder and CEO Gregory Crimmins completed his PhD at UC Berkeley and a postdoc at Tufts University, where he used genetics and high-throughput screening to discover and study new, undescribed proteins that alter immune cell function.     What motivated you to start Remedy? Every generation of my family has struggled with and suffered from cancer (leukemia and breast and colon cancers), and I am highly motivated to make new drugs to improve the lives of the millions of people like us. My mom helped me assemble a duct-taped-together biology laboratory in one very inexpensive and windowless room. My dad ran statistical analyses on the data I was generating. My wife helped me learn how to communicate scientific discovery. My brother and sister-in-law helped set up the legal foundation for the company. My sister, friends, cousins, aunts and uncles helped with a crowdfunding campaign to get us started. Remedy is now a lot of things – it is a clinical stage biotech company with a top-notch board, great investors, an amazing team of scientists, and academic collaborators all around the world. Remedy, for me, will also always carry with it that initial launch, powered by one family’s suffering and strength and hope, and that motivates me – that is fire I keep burning all the time. What are you excited about for Remedy over the next 6 months? We are doing it – we are taking our NAMPT inhibitor into the clinic.
