Is this the worst ad ever? The Quiznos spongemonkey commercial was one of the worst ads of all time... Although it was buzz-worthy, it killed sales, pissed off franchisees, and was a complete flop. Lesson: While differentiation is critical for success, you can also GO TOO FAR and have it backfire on you. Of course, you never know until you test, but that's the great thing about digital advertising: You can split test ideas on the fly, quickly shut down the losers, and elevate the winners BEFORE any major damage is done.
