2023 brought a greater mix of projects to Wisconsin’s commercial property assessed clean energy (C-PACE) program. We attribute that to a larger mix of lenders and the assistance of PACE Wisconsin stakeholder groups: counties, economic development groups, chambers, developer associations, and local utilities were essential partners in helping to spread the word about the impact of PACE as an economic development tool that creates more energy efficient buildings in Wisconsin. https://lnkd.in/dw8tHYiV

Frustrated with Vancouver Council’s recent decision to keep buildings locked into outdated, fossil gas-intensive infrastructure? You’re not alone. Not only is this rollback a red herring for housing affordability; but built environment, health, and economics experts find it will cost us all more in medium and long terms. (More details in the letter and below). #join the growing chorus of business leaders calling for smarter investments in a liveable future! ✍️here https://lnkd.in/gf7XaiDm #leadersleading ….. A few more reasons: Per evidence-based research by C40 Cities: “New gas infrastructure will become a liability before the end of its anticipated economic lifetime”; while “switching to renewables, combined with energy-efficiency improvements and electrification, will help to make energy more affordable and accessible”. https://lnkd.in/gRXdGCXd #Health: Per the 2030 Countdown by the The Lancet (the world’s premier peer-reviewed health journal): “Fossil fuel dependence is not only undermining global health through increased climate change impacts, but also [negatively] affects human health and wellbeing directly”. These harms also carry significant economic costs. https://lnkd.in/gvJ6JRqZ More #cobenefits: https://lnkd.in/gHR8isbQ More Vancouver-specific details from former* Vancouver Economic Commission staff George Patrick Richard Benson: https://lnkd.in/gW4Wi_BS (*before VEC was unilaterally shuttered)

CMAP Executive Director Erin Aleman recently joined a panel discussion hosted by the Lambda Alpha International - Chicago Region Chapter to explore the future of transit and its important connection with land use. This discussion featured leaders in helping craft the future of transit, including Audrey Wennink, senior director at the Metropolitan Planning Council; and Kirk Dillard, chair of the Regional Transportation Authority of Northeastern Illinois (RTA). P.S. Sriraj, professor and director of The Urban Transportation Center at UIC, facilitated the conversation with members of the audience — professionals who work in diverse fields related to land economics. Together, we will continue to educate and engage with decisionmakers around the recommendations in the Plan of Action for Regional Transit (PART)to ensure a fully funded transit system that strengthens the system we want, and northeastern Illinois deserves. ⏳Commissioner-designate grillings are just around the corner! With just one week to go before the hearing of Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner-designate for Energy and Housing, we’ve rounded up the key takeaways from his answers to the written questions addressed to him by the European Parliament. 🙌 We are happy that his answers recognise energy efficiency as a tool for: ✅ Addressing affordable housing and energy poverty ✅ Enabling a cost-effective decarbonisation ✅ Strengthening the resilience of Europe’s energy sector and economy 👏 Dan Jørgensen also places a strong emphasis on the energy efficiency of buildings and commits to making more financing, both public and private, available to boost the efficiency of homes – namely via the Social Climate Fund and the revision of state aid rules, but also by ensuring investments for energy efficiency in the EU Clean Energy Investment Strategy. Despite the answers failing to recognise the role of energy efficiency in facilitating the electrification of the EU’s energy system, Dan Jørgensen shares a welcome understanding of energy efficiency as an effective means to achieving many of the EU’s goals, from competitiveness and resilience to affordable housing and lower energy prices. We hope to see this reflected also during his hearing next week! 🤝 👉 Read the full questionnaire here: https://lnkd.in/dkFmK8Tp
