If the VCM is going to solve the problem it was originally intended to, we need to focus on the real solutions to the problem, not the competitive rhetoric being spewed forth daily, backed by public finance from the Global North. Even the charities and institutional donors know that we cannot solve climate change with philanthropic money alone... The good news is that this is not a zero-sum game, and there is enough market share to go around. Let's stop attacking each other and start to channel markets toward good. Here's how I believe we can: a) make rules that allow the market to address the problem at hand i.e. build market integrity. b) build the primary market before the secondary (not the other way around). c) if you aren't used to competing in the market, instead of sabotaging the entire system via market manipulation and media attacks, pivot in your approach so you can follow the rules in a) and be successful. d) regulate the heck out of the system.

2-5 years for pledges. MAX Why? People’s interests and situations change in a decade. Frankly, you need the cash as soon as possible to move your mission forward. We don’t recommend asking for multi year pledges unless there’s a strategic advantage to doing so or the donor requests it. Cash in ASAP moves your mission forward faster.
