Just posting jobs can feel productive and promising at first. ✨ But after months of no success and countless applications that don't fit, it starts to feel like a waste of time. You might end up with a lot of unqualified candidates, but still no one who’s right for your team. This can be discouraging and stall your progress. Yes, it’s important to get started. But once you’ve started: Create a strategy. Know who you're looking for, where to find them, and why they would want to join your team. That’s how you’ll find the right candidates. I was promoted 3x: Sr. Manager - Vice President while working remotely from home. Prior to working from home, I remained an individual contributor for 10 years. Perhaps it was easier to find my stride of excellence with limited distractions, no longer spending time talking about someone's dog who could jump through rings of fire. Working from home allowed me to fully tap into my flow state. (yes, I know remote work is NOT for everyone) If I was looking for a remote job in 2024, here's what I would start my search 6 months in advance: (this strategy also works for my clients) 1. Dedicate 1-2 hours daily on my search strategy :  -Create a job tracker  -Get clear on the job titles  -Focus on becoming an early applicant  -Interview me against job descriptions  -Ensure those roles are in demand by conducting a search  -Setting up alerts on all major job boards including niche remote sites 2. Use 𝐊𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞 to level up my resume and discover my ideal career path and save $$ by doing my own resume.  -Try their AI Career Map here: https://lnkd.in/dnhuq3B4 -Then put my resume on file with staffing agencies 3. Research company culture, values, mission, and vision -Use major company review sites  -Check current stock market standing  -Check to see if there were recent layoffs -Review employees on LinkedIn look for promotion lines 4. Network with current employees & build relationships  -Go to job fairs and networking events  -Set aside a small coffee budget and re-engage warm relationships -Build new non-transactional relationships (ask for nothing to start) 5. Wash, rinse, repeat until I find the perfect remote job fit Remember: Excellence is a PRACTICE. Not a location. #kickresumepartner

Remote job opportunities may seem plentiful, but the reality is a highly competitive market, especially for senior and mid-level roles. The hiring process can take 3 to 4 weeks (excluding a couple of weeks for the final offer), with multiple interview rounds including coding challenges and system design, and is often open only to immediate joiners or those in their notice period. This competition is even fiercer for remote roles due to the larger candidate pool. While the ideal time to secure a job is when you're not actively looking, it doesn’t always work that way. Consistent preparation and practice are key to standing out when opportunities arise.

If you're looking for a remote job (and want to avoid scams and fake job postings), Remotive has thousands of vetted job postings. It will save you from weeding through junk job listings and positions that claim to be remote, but when you read the fine print, they are hybrid or not remote at all. 💡 Last year, SkillUp Coalition launched a new job catalog to surface remote jobs that do not require a degree in order to better serve their core users: STARs. With additional funding from the GitLab Foundation, SkillUp improved their technology and ran digital marketing campaigns to raise awareness. These efforts have paid off. The job board hosts as many as 11,000 job listings per day. It has served more than 150,000 STARs to date and helped an estimated 2,000 users secure remote jobs. 🤝 SkillUp’s data-driven, user-centric solution, and the GitLab Foundation’s support, is an impressive example of the large-scale impact that is possible through innovation and partnership. Last fall, they created a remote job board specifically for jobseekers without a college degree. Already, SkillUp's job board hosts as many as 11,000 job listings per day and has served over 150,000 STARs. Request for anyone posting jobs: please specify your location right at the start, even for remote roles! I’ve seen some exciting opportunities in my feed only to find out — not in the post, but by researching the hiring manager/company — that they are based in another country. So please: 1. State your company’s location 2. Distinguish whether a remote role is nationally remote or “worldwide remote,” and whether you are open to sponsoring/relocating applicants from elsewhere. 3. (Slightly tangential) Don’t list a position as remote in the headline but hybrid in the description. This will save a lot of disappointment and confusion, especially if you’re in a non-English-speaking country but posting in English. TIA!!
