Watch this video to see two new state-of-the-art firefighting response vessels designed by Incat Crowther in operation for the Port Authority of New South Wales. The vessels, named Burra and Girawaa, are designed to play a pivotal role in major on-water incidents, including firefighting operations. Burra and Girawaa have the ability to pump 16,000 litres of sea water per minute – equivalent to the capacity of four large fire engines. Capable of travelling in shallow water, the vessels can travel at speeds of up to 27 knots and have the ability to turn 365 degrees in 60 metres, while travelling at 20 knots. SART/ Search and Rescue Transponder SART/ Search and Rescue Transponder is used during maritime emergencies to locate a ship’s position if it goes off-track. There is a radar-SART and AIS-SART, which is GPS-based. SARTs are brightly coloured, can be held in one hand, are battery-operated and made of waterproof components. They are used in ships, lifeboats, and liferafts and are designed to remain afloat for long, even if the vessel sinks. Per GMDSS regulations, ships between 300 and 500 GRT must carry one SART, and ships over 500 GRT must have two onboard. They must be mounted where they can be swiftly placed in a survival craft. Most ships have SARTs on the bridge or close to bridge wing doors. They can also be stowed in survival craft. The bright orange colour of Search and Rescue Transponders ( SART) enables quick detection, whereas the combination of transmitter and receiver allows it to transmit and receive radio signals. https://lnkd.in/gbD4Muas

VESSEL REVIEW: Australia’s Tasmania Police has expanded its fleet of vessels with the recent acquisition of a new aluminium monohull offshore patrol boat built by Geraldton, Western Australia-based Fine Entry Marine to a design by local naval architecture firm Global Marine Design (GMD). Named 'Van Diemen', the boat was designed for the conditions of the Southern Ocean around Tasmania. GMD said the vessel arrangement makes for a very functional, comfortable, and high performance boat that is suitable for extended patrols in harsh conditions. 'Van Diemen' also features a gyrostabiliser for heavily reduced roll motion, thus increasing comfort and safety during patrols and search and rescue (SAR) operations. The Tasmania Police said the boat is one of the first police vessels in Australia to be fitted with a gyrostabiliser, as enhanced occupational health and safety features were among the agency’s critical considerations for the selection of the new vessel. Last year, a major 🔥 fire at London Luton Airport’s car park, caused by a diesel vehicle ignition, led to extensive losses, destroying over 1,300 vehicles and injuring four firefighters. The existing water suppression system was insufficient to contain the fire, emphasizing key lessons for improvement. 💡Lessons Learned: 1. Enhance fire suppression systems with effective sprinklers. 2. Strengthen compliance checks for complete safety adherence. 3. Update legislation to include operational risks and preventive measures. ⛓️ Two parties were responsible for the accident: 1) Building control, was the body responsible for monitoring compliance in buildings, which did not verify the adequacy of safety standards. 2) Fire safety enforcement authority, was the legislative body, as potential operating risks were not included in the necessary safety requirements.
