Something we probably aren’t good at is cheering ourselves. I reckon we have earned one Swimming Victoria The development of the Hawk-Eye swimming officiating technology is profound for the sport and has scaled very quickly to the Paris Olympic Games. It’s something we are understandably proud of; it’s making the sport fairer and the experience for participants better, has catalysed other product development (watch this space…) and has a strong commercial upside. All from the 14 person team at Swimming Victoria and the worlds best sports tech company in this area Hawk-Eye Innovations Ltd . It’s a unique partnership that brings together texh capability and connection to the sport at a granular level. Why did we start this? Because no-one could satisfactorily explain how humans walking beside a pool can be expected to judge what’s happening in all lanes, above and below the water, simultaneously and in real time. Nor could we accept that in this age we needed 20 volunteer parents to get their feet wet pressing a red timing button at the end of each lane. And from there it was born and has evolved to all facets of officiating and onwards to vision aggregation and distribution and analytics (and for that we are grateful to be working with the computer science and AI team RMIT University.) Deborah Wyatt Enabled by a highly capable and rigorous SV Board, the motivated and smart SV team, the right, outrageously capable (best in the world) partner(s) and a trusted, generous and brilliant collaborator in Ben Ramsden. Innovation that solves real world puzzles and makes things better is also thoroughly enjoyable. You don’t need to be a big or an apex sporting body to make a difference. That’s probably the most liberating lesson from it all. Onwards we go. Go the Vics. Clare Burton Josh Barila Jacqueline Harrod Ashlea Keramidopoulos Michelle Harris Hayden Collins SUSAN A SMITH MBA, GAICD
Swimming Victoria in conjunction with Hawk-Eye Innovations Ltd and Olly Timing are exhibiting at the American Swimming Coaches Association World Clinic in Orlando, Florida. We are really proud to showcase Hawk-Eye swimming technology, developed with Swimming Victoria and used by World Aquatics at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. An example of innovation that Swimming Victoria are proudly leading in officiating and performance analytics.

My latest article for JRN covers the importance of rivalries to the sport of rowing. From the success of the events such as The Boat Race we can see not only how integral theses rivalries are to the sport but also how they can attract a new audience and hopefully grow the sport of rowing.

I love this for at least FOUR reasons. First, [once again], Sports as a Crucible for Life. ↳ Bryan Kryder’s story is another example of how sport ties back into work and life. Growth comes from being outside of your comfort zone. Kudos to Bryan for being brave and having a growth mindset. Let’s check out what Bryan said: ↳ “the older we get, we tend to fall into patterns of just playing it safe and doing the things that we know” ↳ “trying something new” ↳ “a new challenge” ↳ “test myself” ↳ “[overcoming] fear” ↳ “learning and taking instruction” ↳ “confidence” ↳ “progress” ↳ “life skill” ↳ “fitness” ↳ “taking a first step” ↳ “opening up your world” ↳ “limitless” Powerful stuff! Second, Connections and Relationship. ↳ Bryan’s story is moving to me, because its powerful, but also because I feel connected to it. It was reposted by my friend and former teammate Chris Plumb. Chris is the CEO and Head Coach at Carmel Swim Club. Carmel Swim Academy -- which offers “learn to swim” programs like the one Bryan is involved in – sits under Carmel Swim Club. Carmel Swim Academy is another amazing thing that my friend and former teammate is doing with his organizations in the sport of swimming and for the State of Indiana. Thank You and Keep Going! Third, Community. ↳ Chris and his team at the Carmel Swim Academy are doing their part to help their community by providing critical “learn to swim” programming. As Bryan said, this is a life skill. Four, Enriching Content. ↳ I can’t wait to follow the SWIM feature, presented by INNOVATIVE and the Indiana Sports Corp. This is exactly the type of content that brings me back to LinkedIn. Refreshing. Motivating. Inspiring.
In the first episode of SWIM presented by INNOVATIVE, we learn how Bryan Kryder overcame his fear of water to take his very first swim lesson. Despite a frightening canoe accident as a child, Bryan’s work on the Indiana Sports Corp's local organizing committee for the upcoming USA Swimming Olympic Trials has inspired him to learn this life saving skill through the Swim IN Safety program presented by Eli Lilly & Co! Check back each Wednesday leading up to the #SwimTrials24 for a new episode of SWIM, featuring unique stories from Hoosiers about the importance of swimming.
