Toolkit Tuesday: Dialing Down Resistance From my toolkit, “Unflappable: How Smart People Quit Overthinking, Ditch the Drama, & Thrive at Work,” this tool addresses how to talk so people will listen and navigate and negotiate conflicts by putting the relationship first. When you follow the three steps (set intentions, communicate empathy, offer redirection), you’ll avoid unnecessary, distracting conflict. Mastermind Magic: From Dictating Solutions to Powerful Guidance This weekend, I was re-evaluating my approach to accountability partner service, and a lightbulb moment struck thanks to Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich" (particularly the Mastermind Principle). I realized my advice might have been a bit too forceful at times, dictating solutions instead of fostering collaboration. This could be causing resistance and hindering progress for my clients. ✋ Here's the Shift: Effective Mastermind advice is all about active listening. Instead of telling people what to do, we can: - Ask insightful questions that spark deeper reflection. - Rephrase what we hear to ensure understanding. - Share our own experiences as suggestions, not mandates. By following these tips, we can create a space where mastermind members feel empowered to find their own solutions and achieve their goals. What are your thoughts on effective advice-giving in mastermind groups? Share your insights in the comments! P.S. As with every story element described in this series, the goal relates directly back to the idea of conflict. To reiterate, in its most basic form, conflict is when someone wants something and another person doesn’t want them to have it.
