The passing of Caribbean regionalist and internationalist, Sir Shridath Ramphal. Here is a video glimpse into his remarkable contribution to peace, justice, anti racism and equity in the world.

On this first Sunday morning of the new month of September 2024, I reflect on the timeless wisdom of Sir Shridath Ramphal, a global statesman, who was a son of Caribbean soil, whose words continue to resonate in our world today. In his powerful speech on receiving the Medal of Honour from the Caribbean Court of Justice, he warned against the dangers of "excessive nationalism" as an old enemy of freedom. He urged us to transcend narrow self-interests and embrace a broader vision: to see ourselves as part of "one nation, one region, one world." Reflecting on the recent race riots in the UK, the divisive rhetoric in the US and the wars and rumours of wars all over the world, Sir Shridath's message is more relevant than ever. In a world often divided by soft and hard borders, politics, and ideologies, his call to unity reminds us of our shared humanity and the collective responsibility we bear for our future. His vision of interconnectedness challenges us to rise above divisive rhetoric and work towards a global community where cooperation and mutual respect are the norms. As we navigate the complexities of today's world, I for one want to carry forward Sir Shridath Ramphal's legacy of excellence, striving to reach higher levels of perception and attainment. Mission: Working to move forward the greatness of Catholic education. — Activity: Learning more about the history of Rome and the Catholic Church from my great mentor Dr Mario Baghos. https://lnkd.in/giPbu9ZA — Personal Reflection: A meaningful experience of Catholic education is not limited to the confines of a four-walled classroom, but it embraces adventure (and exposure) in the real world. My reflection then—as I have first-hand experienced on this pilgrimage—is that by implementing creative ways to immerse students in real-world learning, the Catholic educator can help students to learn more about how the Church has engaged with the world in different periods of history. Consequently, this is one approach to encourage students to also contribute to the development of society in accordance with the Gospel in the contemporary age, thus, realising an essential goal of Catholic education.
