"Choose to be optimistic, it feels better” -Dalai Lama ✨I'm excited to share that my two review papers, presented at Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), Gandhinagar during the International Conference on Innovations in Smart and Sustainable Infrastructure 2022, have been published in the Springer Series: Lecture Notes in Civil Engineering (LNCE) by Springer Nature Group. 📑The first paper, "Issues of Microplastics and Sustainable Removal Techniques" explores various research findings and concerns related to microplastics, including their environmental impact and treatment technologies. The paper also highlights the potential use of natural materials in microplastic removal and concludes with a discussion on the possible outcomes for human health if microplastics are not properly managed. DOI: https://lnkd.in/dA8ZMsbG 📑 The second paper, "Sustainable Disposal of Solid Waste in Urban Areas: A Review" offers a comprehensive overview of the evolving approaches to solid waste management, including handling, treatment, recovery, and disposal. It also presents insights into future techniques that could enhance solid waste disposal practices. DOI: https://lnkd.in/dtMrFjca 🙏 My heartfelt gratitude goes to our guide, Dr. Shabiimam M A, and my co-authors Meet Dhamsaniya, Tirtha Trivedi, and Jay Dhorawala, as well as the Department of Civil Engineering at Pandit Deendayal Energy University, for their unwavering guidance and support throughout this journey. #Research #Sustainability #EnvironmentalScience #WasteManagement #Microplastics #SolidWaste #AcademicPublishing #SpringerNature #ConferencePaper #SustainableDevelopment #ScientificResearch #AcademicAchievements #EnvironmentalImpact #PDEU #Gandhinagar

🌱 Data Collection for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) at Kumira Ghat, Chittagong 🌊 As part of my #ENV373 course, I had the opportunity to engage in hands-on data collection for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) #project at Kumira Ghat, #Chittagong. This experience allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, contributing to sustainability efforts while learning the complexities of environmental assessments along with my team mates. Ayaat Jahan Payel Pranto Ghosh Tawhid Rohoman The process involved: Field surveys on #biodiversity and #local ecosystems. Engaging with local communities to understand their concerns. Identifying key #environmental challenges affecting the area. Through this project, I gained valuable insights into the significance of environmental conservation and the vital role EIA plays in ensuring #sustainable development. 🌍 North South University #EnvironmentalImpactAssessment #Sustainability #DataCollection #EIA #Chittagong #EnvironmentalConservation #KumiraGhat #StudentExperience #LearningJourney

🌟 Exciting Research Update! 🌟 #newpublication We're so happy to share a new publication from my group at Kathmandu Institute of Applied Sciences on microplastics removal at a wastewater treatment plant in South Asia. 🌍🔬 This work focused on understanding the #microplastics removal process at a wastewater treatment plant in Kathmandu. Thank you all co-authros including Smriti Bastakoti, Asmita Adhikari Mohan Dangi Bhanu Neupane Bhoj Gautam Bishan . ✨ Highlights: a) This study is among the few reports on microplastics removal at a wastewater treatment plant in South Asia. b) Researchers analyzed 300 samples over a year from four stages of wastewater treatment. c) The Guheshwori wastewater plant successfully removed 72.5% of microplastics from the wastewater. 🚰👏 This research marks a significant step towards understanding and enhancing microplastic filtration processes in the region. Stay tuned for more insights and breakthroughs! Get the full paper, available to download for free for the next 50 days. During my recent visit to Katlehong Engineering Schools, I had the privilege of observing the learners demonstrating the concept of hydroponics. This innovative method of growing plants without soil, using nutrient-rich water, offers a unique blend of educational benefits and service learning opportunities. Hydroponics presents several advantages for African schools, including valuable skills development. By utilizing this method, up to 90% less water is consumed compared to traditional agriculture, making it a crucial technique in water-scarce regions. Katlehong Engineering Schools has successfully implemented hydroponics, enabling continuous crop growth regardless of seasonal or soil conditions. This contributes to combating food insecurity and improving students' nutrition. The integration of service-based learning allows students to not only acquire knowledge but also make meaningful contributions to the well-being of their communities. This fosters the development of a generation of environmentally conscious and socially responsible citizens. #hydroponics #servicebasedlearning #engineeringeducation #industryinvolvement #EngineeringExcellence #sdg #communityengagement Engineering Council of South Africa FAEO FAEO #agenda2063 ACTOM (Pty) Ltd

I am excited to share our new paper, developed within the NEXUS (@nexus.ccst) and XPaths Project, funded by FAPESP (@agenciafapesp), in collaboration with researchers from DIIAV-INPE (@diiav_inpe) and the Stockholm Resilience Centre (@sthlmresilence)! Ana Paula Dutra de Aguiar, Taís Sonetti-González 🌿💧 Exploring Sustainability in the MATOPIBA Region Our paper, "Long-term Sustainability of the Water-Agriculture-Energy Nexus in Brazil’s MATOPIBA Region: A Case Study Using System Dynamics," reveals crucial insights into the challenges faced in the Rio Grande Basin due to the growing global demand for food. 🔍 Study Summary: Land conversion for agriculture and hydropower generation are straining water resources in the Rio Grande Basin, a major tributary of the São Francisco River in Western Bahia. With decreasing precipitation and shrinking aquifers, agricultural expansion may face significant challenges by 2040. 📉 Key Findings: Water scarcity for irrigation could limit the expansion of irrigated lands. Agricultural growth may significantly increase energy demand, creating further challenges. 🔧 Our Recommendations: Improve water management. Explore alternative energy sources. These steps are essential for ensuring the sustainability of the Rio Grande Basin and mitigating future conflicts. Check out the full paper to understand how these challenges can be addressed and what this means for the future of the affected regions! 📚✨ 🔗 Read it now!
