𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬' 𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: In today’s competitive market, established brands can no longer rely solely on their legacy of leadership to maintain dominance. #AsianPaints , once a market leader, now faces significant competition from new entrants like #BirlaOpus Paints and other peers. It’s a clear signal for industry leaders: consistent innovation and quality assurance are essential to staying ahead. Consumers today are well-informed and value quality over brand loyalty. Companies that prioritize profit over product standards risk losing customer trust and market share. To remain relevant, leaders in every trade must embrace innovation without compromising on quality, adapting continually to meet consumer expectations.

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the South Asian Apparel Leadership Forum 2024, organized by the brilliant Linda Speldewinde and AOD at Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams. It was an inspiring and thought-provoking event that brought together industry leaders to discuss the future of the global apparel sector. The day kicked off with Malik Ahamadeen setting the stage, followed by Christopher Sanderson’s insightful overview of the global apparel landscape. Ben Cavender’s deep dive into the evolving trends in China’s markets and Hasitha Premaratne’s powerful address on Sri Lanka’s resilience over the past two decades were truly memorable. Hasitha emphasised leveraging our neighbouring countries—India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh—to enhance outputs and stay competitive. Key Takeaways: 💡 Industry Evolution -Localized product design and engaging retail experiences are becoming non-negotiables. -Heritage alone is no longer enough—we must innovate and embrace platform control. 💡 Sri Lanka's Resilience -Successfully managing operations despite fuel and gas shortages and supporting the US dollar crisis. -Proving that strong fundamentals and effective reputation management can ensure minimal disruptions. 💡 Global Trends -Asia continues to dominate the supply chain, but competition is growing. -The global customer mix is shifting, demanding elevated manufacturing standards. A Standout Quote: "Technology does not transform society. Society transforms itself, using technology. AI will only ever be as useful as the HI that generates it." This resonated deeply, especially in the context of the transformation economy. The ongoing economic migration to urban centres will drive new mindsets and lifestyles, urging organisations to rethink strategies for future success. A huge thank you to all the speakers and organizers for such a meaningful event. It’s clear that collaboration, innovation, and resilience will shape the future of the apparel industry—not just for Sri Lanka, but globally. Here’s to raising the bar and staying ahead of the curve! #LeadershipForum #ApparelIndustry #Innovation #Resilience

A quick summation of takeaways from our discussion at the recent The Consumer Goods Forum Global Summit moderated by Sarah Van Dyck of Egon Zehnder I have always felt that results are the outcome of the actions and beliefs of the team. And our beliefs are shaped by our experiences. We take risks because we’ve experienced positive outcomes from doing so that built confidence, courage and belief in “the possibilities”. Our role as a leader is to provide the vision and the freedom to innovate and execute inside a framework…to create moments for our teams to experience what’s possible thru ideation, innovation, initiative and execution. But unlocking the full potential of the team and the organization means we must be able to flex between when to lead and when to follow. “Above all, be a leader who can lead but also follow…What a privilege and inspiring call to action.” #leadership The Hain Celestial Group
Egon Zehnder was proud to participate in this month’s 2024 Consumer Goods Forum in Chicago. Sarah Van Dyck, co-leader of Egon Zehnder’s Global Consumer Practice, moderated an exciting and informative panel, Leading through Complexity, featuring an impressive roster of top executives: 🔹 Thibaut Mongon, CEO of Kenvue 🔹 Wendy Davidson, President & CEO and Board Director of The Hain Celestial Group 🔹 Vipul Chawla, Group CEO of the FairPrice Group 🔹 Nathalie Roos, CEO of LIPTON Teas and Infusions The participants were forthright about the challenges they are facing leading their organizations in this increasingly volatile and uncertain world. They all shared formative moments illustrating how they have had to evolve their leadership styles to manage their competing priorities among wider groups of stakeholders and expanding mandates. The consensus was undeniable that being CEO is getting harder as the world gets more complex. Read on for more insights: https://ego.nz/3W14Z72 Authors: Sarah Van Dyck, Megan Trice

Walmart is becoming thee Retailer to Build Emerging Brands. In today’s retail landscape, Walmart is positioning itself as a powerhouse for fostering emerging brands, and much of that can be attributed to the leadership of CEO Doug McMillon. You have to love Doug, starting at the bottom in 1984 he immersed himself in the company’s culture and operations, and gained a deep understanding of the business from the ground up. This “old-school” approach, learning every facet of the operation has made him one of retail’s most dynamic leaders. What makes Doug stand out? In a world where leadership often feels disconnected, McMillon’s grounded approach reminds us of a timeless truth: success starts with understanding your business and your customers. Customer-Centric Vision: His leadership is rooted in understanding both customers and associates. Hands-On Leadership: McMillon actively communicates with associates and customers, he’s even known for sharing his passion and energy across social media platforms. Commitment to Innovation: His strategic plans have paved the way for Walmart to become a hub for emerging brands, offering them a platform for visibility and growth. This innovation focus is helping to support the growth of the next generation of brands and entrepreneurs seeking the same American dream that Sam Walton had back in 1962. Thank you to Doug McMillon , Bradley Luckoff, and the whole Walmart team for your commitment to supporting new brands!

What initially confused you about CPG? I'll go first - I was confused why founders would buy their own product in stores. I understood the novelty (the first time). But after that, store margins mean you're going into the hole on every purchase! Then I learned about velocities... And about how CPG isn't always 100% concerned with netting a profit 😂 ------------------------------------- I help innovative and #betterforyou #CPG founders grow their emerging brands with #finance leadership. Please reach out if you think I can help.
