I really appreciate this topic by Karen Catlin at Better Allies. I've been trying to determine best practices for myself with regards to adding a visual description of myself when presenting or meeting virtually. This started with the pandemic as way to be helpful for our colleagues with low vision or are blind. "..digital accessibility specialist Lynn Wehrman pointed out recently on LinkedIn, ..a staff member said 'It makes me uncomfortable. Singled out. Gives me information I don’t really need'." However, there are benefits. Here are two best practices that the post shared from Dr Joel Snyder to consider if visual descriptions are used: -Keep it brief, identifying no more than three key elements. -Mention something like your height or clothing only if it would be a helpful marker for a blind or visually impaired person to find you at an in-person event. #Accessibility #Inclusion

I've been pondering all the posts and discussions on inclusion and disability and wrote some of my thoughts. I plan to write more as the topic has been heavy on my mind as a visually impaired content creator & accessibility professional. Read the rest of my new blog post, "What matters more than words": https://lnkd.in/e_McHxNM 📷 Image Description: Quote reads "Do I think words are important? Yes. Am I saying it doesn’t matter what people say? No. But the intentions behind words matter more. The actions that follow words matter more. Why can’t we choose to discuss those topics more often and at a deeper level instead of overemphasizing words we want other people to use?" Quote is in a semi-transparent pink rectangle with a pen and notebook visible in the background.

We all talk about inclusive environment how inclusive are we? Do we include all genders at work or do we limit at looking at gender as Male / Female ? Do we even have section for Nonbinary ? Do we create our content for visually impaired? When we use shortcuts in our text how can you expect some one with problems with vision can read ? With us aging and using reading glasses often find it difficult to read when text is not spaced properly. Our generation also lacks understanding of many buzz words. Railways have introduced brile in thier compartments as a great move. How many boards are brile compatible. Do we include text in a video to ensure people with hearing disability can understand what the context is? Do we have enough ramps to carry people with needs? I am thinking and thinking but my thoughts are not stoping. Can we build a company where there are no limits. We at Purple Chillies Solutions want to build that world digitially where the world will be for every one. I am sure there are gaps in our content and can not be leveraged by all right now but we shall strive to make it work for every one !! Share your thoughts and views !

I watched an insightful video today on neurodivergence, and it made me realize how many high-achieving people from my generation went undiagnosed. I know several who excel in their fields and contribute immensely. If we're truly committed to inclusion, we should strive to understand and accommodate different communication styles. Inclusion means meeting each other halfway and ensuring that everyone has a voice, regardless of how they communicate. ''...We need to get rid of the conventional interview process. ...A backdoor is anything that doesn't involve a standard interview. ...We need to make sure we leave the backdoor open. ..." https://lnkd.in/gkmWGcjA #inclusion #neurodivergence #recruiting

🤬I should be pissed off with my tribe right now 😡 I have 50 neurodivergent women OR queer people in my life that I’ve told about amplify to thrive dot com. And from the off they were either intrigued or breaking down my inbox to find out more. I mean, what’s not to love? 💕 Your own author page linked to your own passion or business. The ability to be multiple personas online where you can keep your business separate from your creative pursuits. Even a place where you can hide behind a pseudonym to try out the authentic you. All while knowing that the next generation can find you online, a person just like them, so they don’t feel so alone and are spared the same trauma of feeling different and alone growing up. ✨ But.. it is difficult finding the time to be creative. There’s so many other things pulling us in a dozen pieces. So I could be pissed off. But honestly I am really not. I know that these authors of creative fiction or snapshot life stories will submit something at some point. That this project will one day be one of the things I am most proud of in life. 😀 I know that sometimes things just take time. Whether you are neurodivergent (self advocacy counts), queer or both and want to try on being an author for amplify to thrive. Then do get in touch. The World needs your voice in it and we’d love to read your creative fiction or life story. Or multiple thereof. #authoropportunity #pr #linkedin #autisitic #adhd #dyslexia #bipolar #ocd #lgtbtqia #bemorezebra #creativewriting

HORRIBLE STORIES....? I have a story to tell….. Recently heard about a bad experience? Where inclusion was definitely missing? We've all heard the negative stuff. Everyday these horrible stories are shared on social media. Kids being maltreated in public spaces. Adults being made to feel small or insignificant. This time I have a good story to tell. Do you have a positive inclusion story to tell. ⬇️ The video says it all....⬇️ #neurodivergenceatwork #autismatwork #adhdatwork

Video description: A light, brown-skinned woman sits with a mole on her right cheek, her hair styled in a low bun. She dons a yellow short-sleeved shirt emblazoned with "Be Kind." The backdrop features images of several open books, alongside the phrase "The Open Book." Our lives unfold in numerous chapters, each containing a story that deserves to be told and shared. What stories are waiting to be revealed in your chapter? Filled with: Games, Fitness, Music, Goal-Setting, Virtual Parties. Including Contest. Note: In the video on the lower left side says United by Creative Minds, United by Creative Minds is old, I've changed it to the Open Book. I have created a virtual socializing group for people with disabilities, to hang out and have fun. The Open Book is a virtual social gathering for networking. We are a community that, despite any disabilities or conditions, seeks to have fun. This group was established and is run with compassion. Exclusively for individuals with disabilities! Comparison isn’t just the thief of joy—it’s the thief of self-worth. Social media can amplify insecurities, whether it’s body image for women or career success for men. Self-awareness is our best tool to recognize when we’re falling into the trap of comparison. With self-awareness, we can refocus on our unique strengths and goals, instead of measuring ourselves against others. True growth is about aligning with who we are, not who others appear to be. Let’s support each other in choosing self-worth over comparison.🤝 #SelfWorth #SocialMedia #SelfAwareness
