At the pandemic's peak, I had the privilege of discussing regional and global advocacy strategies for health equity with Rosemary Mburu. In our conversation, we addressed the critical need to build multilateral partnerships between all stakeholders to create a more equitable and just world; including collaboration between civil society groups, educational institutions, and scientific establishments, as a requirement to tackle the root causes of health disparities and create sustainable solutions. Health equity is more than just access to healthcare - it's about dismantling systemic barriers that prevent certain populations from achieving optimal health outcomes. From socioeconomic status to race and ethnicity, there are a myriad of factors that play into health disparities. As COVID-19 turns four, there is still work to be done. I invite you to watch our discussion in full, here: https://bit.ly/499CUyd + share your thoughts in the comments! #HealthEquity #EquityInHealthcare #HealthDisparities #BuildingStrongerSystems.

3 Things I'd Never Do in Pursuing Health Equity: 🚫 1. Assume all communities have the same needs. 🏙️🏘️ Each community faces unique challenges shaped by their history, culture, and environment. 2. Implement programs without community input. 🗣️ 👂🏿 True progress comes from listening to and collaborating with those we aim to serve. 3. Ignore intersectionality in health experiences. 🔄 Health disparities often stem from complex interactions of race, gender, class, and other factors. These practices can significantly hinder progress in health equity. But what about you? What approaches have you seen backfire in healthcare inclusion efforts? 🤔 Let's discuss ways to create more effective, community-centered solutions. After all, health equity isn't just a goal—it's a fundamental right. ⚖️❤️ #HealthcareInclusion #HealthEquity #CustomerSuccess #InWomensHealth #IWH #NYCWCC

Misconceptions Holding Back the Health Justice Movement: Insights from the Front Lines As a mission-driven consulting firm working to advance health justice, we encounter many misconceptions that hinder progress in our field. We want to shed light on these myths to foster a more accurate understanding of what it takes to achieve health justice. Misconception 1: Health disparities are inevitable. Fact: With committed, evidence-based action, health disparities can be significantly reduced. By addressing root causes like systemic inequities and social determinants of health, we can create lasting change. Misconception 2: Advancing equity is the responsibility of communities experiencing disparities. Fact: Achieving health equity requires collaboration from stakeholders across all sectors - healthcare, government, academia, nonprofits and communities. We all have a role to play in dismantling oppressive systems. Misconception 3: Solutions don't need to be community-specific. Fact: Cookie-cutter approaches don't work. To be effective, interventions must be tailored to the unique strengths, needs and priorities of each community. Deep community engagement is non-negotiable. Misconception 4: More data alone will solve the problem. Fact: While data is a powerful tool, it must be coupled with meaningful analysis, compelling communication and strategic action. Data must also be disaggregated and examined through an equity lens to drive change. We're committed to challenging misconceptions and pushing for transformative, community-driven solutions. Let's work together to spread the truth about what it takes to build a more just and equitable world. #HealthEquity #SocialJustice #EquityTruths #CommunityEngagement
