Is it possible to learn a language without learning about culture? My Language and Culture I course focuses on the relationship between language and culture. My students and I plunge into the immenseness of uncertainties in the world with only one truth: teachers of English not only teach English. What else we teach is part of what we try to answer in the course. Closing this semester, my students needed to answer why it is important to know about culture as a language teacher and present their insights in a class presentation. Their reflections were superb. I wish I had known so much in my early twenties 🌈 Give them the tools, give them the space, and students will speak up.
