Founders: believe it or not, investors DO appreciate deadlines! Setting deadlines can be daunting... I get it. But avoiding them only prolongs uncertainty. While rejection may sting, it's far better than being left in limbo due to indefinite silence. By respectfully setting reasonable timelines, you allow for clearer communication and decision-making from your contacts. You get to set the stage and take charge of the process. Even if you feel uneasy setting deadlines, remember that investors, like everyone else, juggle numerous priorities. Providing clear deadlines actually helps them prioritize and stay organized! You don't have to start demanding for a term sheet by the end of the week, but you can start with something simple, like "“We expect to close things by__” or “Our plan is to run a process starting __ and ending around __, can you work within that timeline?” As you integrate deadlines into your fundraising strategy, you'll not only gain control over the process but also unlock their potential in various aspects of your life. Now.. go set those deadlines! P.S. I wrote an entire newsletter on this topic that I sent out this week. If you want to read the full thing, head to the comments!

Here’s a throwback from a decade ago!! 🙈 Have I changed much? It feels like we opened the AccountingKW doors for the first time just yesterday. This photo reminds me of the endless excitement and anticipation I had. Even though the early days were filled with countless challenges, long hours, and uncertainty. 😕 We always had an unwavering belief in what we could achieve together. It’s important not to forget the lessons learned and the memories created during those early days. They shape who we are and where we're headed. Have I changed much from a decade ago? #Throwback #BusinessGrowth #BusinessOwner #OntarioAccountant

What new habits are you trying to create? At the moment I’m at the start of a new venture with The Business Success Club. I know I will need to create some new habits to make it a success. The first one is to spend at least 30 minutes a day going through the training and reading the operations manual. The next habit is to do something small towards each of my goals every day. One goal is to get my financial management under control, so that I’m not spending large chunks of time catching up at year end. So I’ve created quick way to check what is going out, when and from which account. It makes it a quick task to check what money needs to be moved around each week (a new habit I’m stacking with my weekly planning session). Now to focus on filing, so I can develop some good habits there too. #thatstrategyclubvisibilitychallenge

Crafting the perfect mezcal is a lot like creating a solid financial plan - it takes time, expertise, and a deep understanding of the ingredients at hand. 🥃📊 This weekend at a tasting event, I had the incredible honor of meeting Erick Rodriguez, the master distiller, robinhood of mezcal, and now friend. Erick's passion in preserving the ancestral methods of small-batch, locally-owned Mexican family distilleries isn't just admirable - it's inspirational. His commitment to quality over quantity, and tradition over mass production, resonates deeply with my approach to financial and business succession planning. - Patience is key: Just as aging mezcal can't be rushed, building true wealth takes time and consistency. - Attention to detail matters: Every step in distilling affects the final product, much like how small financial decisions impact your overall portfolio. - Balancing tradition with innovation: The best mezcal makers honor traditional methods while embracing new techniques - a philosophy that aligns perfectly with modern financial planning. - Understanding your 'terroir': Like how soil and climate influence agave, your personal circumstances shape your financial strategy. This reinforced my belief that whether it's crafting fine spirits or being your personal Wealth CFO, the secret lies in respecting the process and staying true to your values. Here's to savoring life's most meaningful moments while planning for a prosperous future! 🌵💼 ¡Arriba, abajo, al centro, pa' dentro!

It's been widely believed that February-March is the most stressful period for the Finance Teams due to the heavy workload with year-end audits and reporting. My perception has always been different. On the contrary, I am convinced that October-November period usually brings more complicated and pressing tasks, such as: quarter reporting, interim audit, year-end forecasting, budgeting. Do you agree with it? How do you and your teams cope with the challenges? My response is: 1. reduce time spent on intellectual hobbies such as reading and learning languages and prioritize physical activities 2. promise yourself and your teams time for early December retreat. Share your thoughts and ideas please
