What is the evolution of our digitally connected world? Let’s hope the future does not follow the trends of the past: the mass production and consumption of digital devices; a world divided by digital “haves” and “have-nots”; the unthinking promotion of smart economies and a perspective of technology for technology’s sake. It is not a choice – it simply will not work for people and the planet. @APC #CircularEconomy https://lnkd.in/e5wyYjSW

The Hidden Carbon Footprint of the Digital World 🌐 We all love technology, but have you considered the carbon impact behind the screen? As we increasingly rely on digital tools and services, the environmental footprint of our online activities grows silently but significantly. Every time you stream a video, check social media, or send an email, data centers are processing that information. These data centers consume massive amounts of energy, often from non-renewable sources, contributing heavily to our carbon emissions. Similarly, storing data in the cloud means that servers are running 24/7, and depending on the energy used, this can significantly increase the carbon footprint of even the smallest online interactions. Additionally, the smart devices we rely on daily, like phones, laptops, and connected gadgets, run on electricity, much of which still comes from fossil fuels. So, how can the digital world go green? One step is by using green data centers, powered by renewable energy to store and process our data. Another option is optimizing cloud storage by moving to services that prioritize energy efficiency and a low carbon footprint. On the consumer side, choosing energy-efficient devices and supporting companies that focus on sustainable production can help lower our personal impact. To further reduce our digital footprint, we can recycle old tech, avoid simply discarding devices, and either donate or repurpose them. Upgrading to energy-efficient gadgets is also a simple yet effective way to contribute. What’s your next digital move to go green? Every small action counts in reducing our collective digital footprint. Let’s take steps towards a greener, more sustainable future with every click and device we use!
