What type of product manager are you? Are you a feature builder or a problem solver?
Usually on Sunday evenings, I take time to reflect on my goals for the week, understanding what plans I need to draw me closer to my dreams and what new strategies to employ. I draw inspiration from Albert Einstein's quote: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." While reflecting, I often ask myself, what am I trying to achieve for my career and personal development? What exactly is the job of a product manager?
I have always been driven to solve community problems, but sometimes, it’s easy to get bogged down by the minutiae of product development and lose sight of your goals. Many times, we focus on building features, planning sprints, and executing tasks, following a routine. It’s easy to wonder if an AI could do our job, simply planning sprints, organizing standups, writing PRDs, and creating Jira tickets. By the end of the year, you may have built numerous websites and mobile apps, but how do you measure your impact?
During the tech layoffs, Product Managers were often among the first to go.
What type of Product Manager should you strive to be? How do you make yourself indispensable? By developing a sense of agency. Own the entire process of solving a problem. Product development stems from identifying problems, digging deep, and asking "Why?" Gather data and find solutions that include the product development process. You should be a Product Manager who identifies and solves problems, creating new revenue streams and aligning with company objectives. while figuring out the 'Why' you get to find answers to the 'what' and 'how'. This allows you to take over the entire process of problem identification and deriving solutions. This makes you a complete Product Manager.
Many Product Managers get stuck with broken or incomplete processes. It’s not just about building features handed to you. You are responsible for identifying problems and using technology to solve them. It’s almost 4pm, the day is running fast. Use your time to understand the sector you’re in and the problems people face. #prodmgt #problemsolving #criticalthinking #mondaymotivations #startups #tech
