There’s this myth floating around that copying is somehow a shortcut in the creative world, especially in MUSIC. The truth is copying is one of the most effective ways to truly understand your craft. Look at Vincent van Gogh. Before he was the legendary artist we all know, he was obsessively copying the greats like Millet and Rembrandt. He wasn’t cheating. He was learning the intricacies of technique, composition, and style. In the past, this wasn’t just accepted—it was encouraged. Musicians, painters, writers—they all started by standing on the shoulders of giants. By copying you’re dissecting and absorbing the skills and nuances that make the greats that good. Copying is not a step back. It's a leap forward. Embrace it, learn from it. And then take what you’ve learned to create something uniquely yours. . . #music #psychology #art #work #skills #violin #learning

"No more art..." by Tony Cokes @tonycokes_ Tony Cokes creates still and moving image works that feature text over multi-chromatic color blocks, usually accompanied by the sound of pop, experimental, industrial, or electronic music. The text fragments are drawn from speeches, lyrics, and other writing by politicians, comedians, and cultural theorists and address wide-ranging subject matter from racism to the notion of evil and megalomania. In a media-saturated culture whereby visibility is incessantly pursued, Cokes is interested in the practice of non-visibility, which moves away from the singular, iconic image and hyper-spectacle to a state of attentive awareness and fluid imagination. In the artist's words, "non-visibility" is a "strategic withdrawal, or evasion of the mistaken identity that is certainty."

'Music is the most entirely human of the fine arts, and has the fewest analoga in nature. Its first delightfulness is simple accordance with the ear; but it is an associated thing, and recalls the deep emotions of the past with an intellectual sense of proportion. Every human feeling is greater and larger than the exciting cause, – a proof, I think, that man is designed for a higher state of existence; and this is deeply implied in music, in which there is always something more and beyond the immediate expression…Art would or should be the abridgment of nature. Now the fulness of nature is without character, as water is purest when without taste, smell, or colour; but this is the highest, the apex only, – it is not the whole. The object of art is to give the whole ad hominem; hence each step of nature hath its ideal, and hence the possibility of a climax up to the perfect form of a harmonized chaos.' Coleridge, ‘On Poesy or Art’ (Literary Remains, Vol. I) Homilius

It’s simple. We often don’t stand a chance against the secular media world when it comes to artistic innovation (even though all of western art was pioneered by us) because we try to play it safe in so many ways. Somewhere along the line we correlated artistic risk with “scandal”, “immorality”, or “heresy.” This is not the case. Now, are there cases where someone abandons their morals, values, and beliefs just to be noticed, accepted, and seen? Yes. But that doesn’t need to be the case. Risk is not sin. On the contrary risk is inherent to the disciple. It’s risky to get out of a boat and walk on water. It’s risky to proclaim the Gospel. Artistically: It was risky to incorporate an organ into liturgical music for the first time. It was risky to debut stained glass windows to catechize the lay faithful for the first time. WE HAVE TO START TAKING RISKS IF WE WANT TO GET THE ATTENTION OF THE NEXT GENERATION. If you’re ready to take risks, contact me. 👍🏽

In the long river of human history, art has been an important factor in promoting the progress of human civilization and soothing the soul. It is the most primitive instinct of human beings, and Happy believe that art therapy is to find the home of the soul and return to oneself through this instinct. https://lnkd.in/dZEX5VSm

Our Story In 12 Parts, my latest story in the working! It’s so nice seeing some of my oldest characters in a cleaned up and polished story. - Zellafien and Seilen were lovers once upon a time in a world where magic and possibilities were endless. The two fought side by side, sparring and training with each other day after day, until fate tore them apart, separating them through time and space. However, not even the rules of fate can stop the two lovers from bending those rules, as they continue their search, life after life, until the day their blades can clash again. - Copyright 2024 LuminaryArts. I love being an artist. It is an incredible honor... It also takes constant courage. I wouldn't trade it for anything. And that's how the real artists are. They can't not do it. But we have to show up for them to keep them fighting to share their precious gift-- --and not just for them, at all! But because we *need* the artists. Little brings as much value and goodness into our lives as art, music, beauty, stories. This is why our culture gloms on to what is ugly in pop culture: because they NEED art, and they see so few good options. We have to give them something better. I am determined to see that come to pass: Through my own work. And through the brilliant work of others. With you, we will do it. ----------------------------------------------------- Sick of the current woke culture that undermines everything you care about?
