Continuing to support local charities and communities in which we live and work and understanding that times can be difficult especially during this time of year, the Isle of Man PAXUS team were proud to support the Isle of Man Foodbank with a further staff funded donation of £250. Introduced in December 2013 and well-supported by a dedicated group of volunteers, the Isle of Man Foodbank offers a range of aid and assistance to those in need of their services. This includes the distribution of food packages, toiletries and household items for families, advice on preparing meals and cooking as well as continuing to combat the on-going food crisis. For further details and information on this charity, near-by drop-off donation points and how you can support people in need this Christmas, please visit their website at: https://lnkd.in/eA_BZsR #CSR #charity #supportlocal #isleofman #paxus

It's Gift Aid Awareness Day, a day to raise awareness of the importance of this form of tax relief for charities. Let's reinforce the message that Gift Aid is a vital source of income for UK charities worth around £1.6 billion a year. That’s a huge amount, but it could—and should—be even more! Every year, around £560m goes unclaimed. We want to see that amount reduced by eligible donors. Remember to #TickTheBox and charities, making sure they take advantage of every potential claim. #GiftAidAwareness #TaxRelief #CharityIncome #UKCharities #ClaimYourGiftAid #GiftAidUK #Donations #TickTheBox #SupportNonprofits #ClaimEveryPenny

Today is the International Day of Charity – a fantastic opportunity to recognise the amazing work carried out by charitable organisations around the world, and to make a donation if you can. We know there are lots of charities to choose from, but here’s why we’d love you to choose RAPAID: 👉 A casualty can tragically bleed to death within just three to five minutes, often before the emergency services have time to arrive. By equipping cabs with life-saving bandages, RAPAID empowers ordinary people to flag down the vital resources they need to #stopthebleed within those first, critical minutes following an injury. 👉 RAPAID's focus is on stopping the bleed. Your funding helps us extend our mission far and wide, ensuring that emergency bandage kits are accessible in a variety of public places – from schools and taxis to workplaces and other venues. By supporting RAPAID, you're contributing to building a resilient community where people are equipped to help each other in times of crisis. Together, we’re creating a safer UK, one kit at a time. This is an important post by the brilliant Fair Collective highlighting power imbalances in the charity sector. It is important to remember this is only part of the picture as charities themselves often get privileged in our conversations (and the fundraising) around social change work in the UK to the neglect of other organisational structures, movements and informal work. What we don't talk about enough is the fact that the dominance of a few groups narrows the voices we hear and the solutions that are offered. Here are 2 pieces I love on the fact that we should be looking to smaller groups if we want to make big impact: - This recent piece from the Director of the CLIMA Fund is a fantastic challenge to the assumption that scale is about replicating a single solution. It champions the role of multiple, grassroots solutions to scale impact - https://lnkd.in/ehVSQ7kM - This research, supported by the Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales from a couple of years back, shows how the response of smaller organisations is distinct. The research highlights how small charities often work flexibly, show up and stick around - https://lnkd.in/eszmyUTA #power #socialchange #smallcharities #justice #impact
The size (and power) imbalances in the charity sector are HUGE. 👉 The top 10 charities in England and Wales spend £243 million a year on fundraising. 👉 This is greater than the combined income of over 75,000 small charities. The reality is: small charities often don't have the staffing/fundraising expertise/networks/time to compete with larger charities. They're underfunded, underresourced, and overlooked. But we won't stop fighting for change - demanding support for small charities. One way we can help? By providing affordable, reliable support for your org, no matter your size or budget. One of the often overlooked consequences of a cost-of-living crisis is the impact on charities. When people have less, they have less to give. There are 27,000 registered charities in Aotearoa, many of which provide life-changing services to our society's most vulnerable. As discussed in this RNZ piece, too many are now struggling to make ends meet. To all those currently working in the charity/non-profit sector- you are not invisible. Thank you for all that you do. https://lnkd.in/gUcC9r6e

📈 Demand for Charity services is growing, is your organisation prepared? Fundraising.co.uk recently reported on the rising pressures faced by UK charities, with over half seeing a significant surge in demand for their services. The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) found that 86% of charities reported increased demand this past year, especially those focused on poverty relief and human rights. It's important that charities have the right protections in place. Trustee Indemnity Insurance can be a valuable safeguard as charities navigate these challenges. 🤔Did you know 96% of UK charities are small? 📊However, new research by NCVO highlights the lack of support for small charities despite their critical role in society. A third of people have relied on food banks, and over 25% sought help from small charities during the cost-of-living crisis. This underscores that small charities are a lifeline for many, especially during challenging times. But income for small charities is falling much faster than for large charities. Nearly half of Brits believe the government should do more to support small charities. 🎉To amplify, support, and connect small charities across the UK, NCVO is celebrating #SmallCharityWeek (24 – 28 June). Visit the campaign website to access special events and resources for your small charity. #SmallCharityWeek #nonprofit #thirdsector #charityCRM

The increasing pressures on local authorities, health services, and other public sector budgets have heightened the demand for the essential support provided by the charity sector. While this highlights the critical role of charities, it has also intensified the competition between smaller and larger charitable organisations for local contracts. Gary Beharrell, Lloyds Bank Foundation’s regional manager, delves deeper into this issue and explores how larger charities winning local contracts could cause small charities to close. Click the link below to read how commissioners could improve the process for local contracts and create equal opportunities for all charities. https://lnkd.in/e-ZCF7zR #Notforprofit #charitypressures #localcontracts #WeAreMerrifield

Fundraising is a great way to persuade people to donate money to your cause; however, due to the importance of fundraising and how much charities do, it can be a minefield to manage responsibly, keep on top of records, bookkeeping, and govern volunteers. Our blog looks at the most common types of fundraising and the areas of governance charities must be aware of when carrying out such activities. Small charities are the glue that holds our communities together ❤️ In Islington, approximately 1,395 of the 1500 charities working here are classed as small charities; most as very small, with an income of under £100,000. These organisations are the backbone of our community. They provide safe, familiar spaces for local people, are often the first responders to people in crisis, and are shaped by the communities they serve. But small charities and their staff are under huge pressure. "As local funders, we hear from many groups that fundraising has become harder, while the need for their services continues to increase. we have received more applications to our recent open rounds and, in addition, are seeing more charities dipping into their reserves in order to meet increased costs." ~ Anne Shewring, Programme Director Cripplegate Foundation Islington Giving As funders, there is more we can do to support these vital grassroots organisations - from increased funding to reducing the demands we place on accessing this funding.
