🌟 Understanding Lux and Lumen: Key Measurement Units in LED Lighting 🌟 At PBLC Lighting Company, we believe that knowledge is power, especially when it comes to understanding the technical aspects of lighting. Today, we’re diving into two crucial measurement units in LED lighting: Lux and Lumen. 𝐋𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧 (𝐥𝐦): Lumen is a measure of the total amount of visible light emitted by a source. In simpler terms, it tells us how bright a light source is. The higher the lumen rating, the brighter the light. When shopping for LED lights, you might see the term "luminous flux" – this is another way of describing lumens. 𝐋𝐮𝐱 (𝐥𝐱): Lux, on the other hand, measures the intensity of light on a surface. It is defined as one lumen per square meter. While lumens indicate the total light output, lux measures how much of that light actually reaches a given area. This is critical for designing effective lighting solutions, as it takes into account the distance from the light source and the area being illuminated. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭? Efficiency: By understanding lumens, you can compare the brightness of different lighting options and choose the most efficient one. Effectiveness: Lux helps you ensure that your space is lit appropriately, enhancing visibility and comfort. For instance, in a sports hall, the lux level might be higher to ensure players can see clearly, while in a lounge area, a lower lux level may create a more relaxing atmosphere. At PBLC Lighting Company, we aim to provide educational insights into lighting technology to help you make informed decisions. Stay tuned for more posts in our series on lighting technical terms! #LightingTechnology #LEDLighting #Lux #Lumen #LightingDesign #PBLC #LED #Lighting #Technology

When we talk about artificial lighting, it’s essential to consider some key aspects that influence our perception of colors and the environment: 🔹 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫: light is made up of colors ranging from red to blue-violet. Our perception depends on the wavelengths our eyes can detect. For example, white is actually a mix of red, yellow, and green. Artificial lighting aims to replicate the natural white of sunlight, but if not properly balanced, it can distort the colors of objects. 🔹 𝐓𝐨𝐧𝐞: the tone of light is determined by its color temperature, expressed in degrees Kelvin (°K). Lights with temperatures below 3300 °K produce warm tones, similar to sunset lighting, while temperatures above 5300 °K create an effect akin to sunrise light. The choice of tone depends on the setting: warm tones are ideal for home spaces, while cooler tones are better suited for work environments. 🔹 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: this index measures how accurately a lamp reproduces the natural colors of objects. A color rendering index close to 100 ensures perfect color fidelity, while lower values indicate lower quality. 🔹 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲: artificial light can be continuous or pulsed. Lamps that emit intermittent light can affect the perception of movement and, in some cases, create dangerous stroboscopic effects in environments with moving machinery. Understanding these characteristics not only helps us choose the most suitable lighting for home or office but also ensures that spaces and objects are perceived in the most natural and safe way. 🤔 Have you ever noticed how different types of light influence the perception of a space or object? 💡 What type of luminaires should I use for a dynamic lighting system? Our product engineer Nazly Lopez Patarroyo answers this question: "For a dynamic lighting system, tunable white luminaires are essential. These luminaires allow the colour temperature and light intensity to be adjusted to simulate natural light changes throughout the day." 💡What are tunable white luminaires? "Tunable white luminaires combine cool and warm white LEDs in a single luminaire. By controlling the proportion of light emitted by these LEDs, the colour temperature can be adjusted from a warm white (approximately 2700K) to a cool white (approximately 6500K)." 🌞 What are the benefits of tunable white luminaires? "Natural light simulation: Tunable luminaires allow you to adjust the light to mimic the natural changes of the day, helping to keep your internal biological clock balanced. Improved well-being and productivity: The ability to adjust the colour temperature can influence users' mood and productivity. Cool light can increase alertness and concentration, while warm light can promote relaxation. Energy efficiency: LEDs are highly efficient and long-lasting, reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs." 🔧 How do we get all the benefits of KUMUX tunable white luminaires? "KUMUX optimises tunable white luminaires through advanced control that automatically adjusts colour temperature and brightness throughout the day. This technology allows: Custom settings: Adapt lighting to the type of building and the specific needs of users, whether in offices, schools, or residences. Compatibility: KUMUX is compatible with any brand of tunable white luminaires and easily integrates into major control systems." Yesterday, while looking through some old photos and videos, I came across a project from four years ago that I wanted to share with you. At the time, I was designing and installing a Home Automation showroom. One challenge we faced was a large Split AC unit that we wanted to hide from sight. We saw this as a great opportunity to show 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲. We custom-built a piece of furniture that not only concealed the AC unit but also included a sliding wooden panel. This panel was designed to rise automatically when the AC was turned on, allowing air to circulate freely. Once the AC was off, the panel would lower back into place, seamlessly blending with the rest of the furniture and creating a clean, cohesive look. It was a pleasure installing and fine-tuning this mechanism! Though I can’t find the exact photo, the system used a roller shade motor—basically the heart of the operation—paired with several custom-made 3D-printed components (another hobby of mine!). Control4 managed the entire system, adjusting the motor whenever the AC was turned on or off. We also added a cool feature: an indirect LED strip ran all along the ceiling, changing colors to reflect the home’s 'mood.' For example, blue light for AC cooling, orange for floor heating, red for Netflix, and purple for gaming, etc. I really enjoy adding these custom touches to every project. It's what makes each installation unique! #smarthome #homeautomation #control4 #triad #audiocontrol
