The recent Duke-Margolis Institute for Health Policy conference explored the future of clinical trials and FDA regulatory changes. Insights shared by industry and government leaders emphasized modernizing clinical trials, integrating them with community healthcare, and ensuring equitable access for diverse populations. Monica Bertagnolli discussed integrating trials with community health needs, while Ned Braunstein highlighted the balance between innovation and regulation. Rob Metcalf advocated for modernized trials supporting diverse, decentralized research, and Esther Krofah emphasized equity in trial access. janet woodcock advocated a 'quality by design' approach for more relevant and inclusive trials. #ClinicalTrials #FDARegulation #HealthcareInnovation #DiversityInResearch #RegulatoryChange #InclusiveResearch Mark McClellan

Historically, clinical trials have underrepresented minority groups, leading to disparities in healthcare outcomes. Diverse representation in studies is crucial for ensuring the effectiveness and safety of treatments across different populations. As we recognize advancements in clinical research on this ACRP - Association of Clinical Research Professionals Clinical Trials Day, we continue to advocate for more equitable healthcare through improved trial representation by employing strategies like community engagement, transparent communication, and addressing systemic barriers to participation. After watching the The White House Clinical Trials Forum and as someone who has witnessed the impact of clinical trials firsthand, I feel compelled to share my thoughts on this crucial topic. Our colleague, Monica's brave battle with cholangiocarcinoma has opened my eyes to the urgent need for more accessible clinical trials, especially for rare and aggressive cancers. Clinical trials are often the last beacon of hope for patients facing life-threatening illnesses, yet many are unaware of their existence or face significant barriers to participation. We need to do better in educating both patients and doctors about available trials and their potential benefits. I'm encouraged by the recent FDA release of the Diverse Access to Enrollment Action Plan, which aims to increase diversity in clinical trial participation. This is a step in the right direction, but we must go further. We need to ease eligibility criteria, rethink the use of placebos in certain cases, and make trials more patient-centric. Organizations like the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, recently seen on the panel at the White House Clinical Trials Forum, are doing incredible work in advocating for patients and pushing for more accessible trials. Their efforts are crucial, especially for lesser-known cancers that often receive less attention and funding. >>link to White House Clinical Trials Forum from June 26,2024 https://lnkd.in/d6BjtDGx >>link to the Diverse Access to Enrollment Action https://lnkd.in/dzzQu4JH #ClinicalTrials #PatientAdvocacy #CholangiocarcinomaAwareness #AccessibleHealthcare

Great article by Rebecca Starkie highlighting the importance of bridging the communication gap in clinical trials. Clinical trials hold the key to unlocking groundbreaking treatments, yet many interested patients miss out due to lack of awareness. By bridging this gap with clear language and accessible information, we can empower patients to become active partners in research. This collaborative approach doesn't just drive successful trials, but also yields real-world benefits that directly impact patient care. #ClinicalResearch #PatientEmpowerment #HealthcareInnovation
