Creating social value through the built environment is key to sustainable urban development. By prioritizing liveability, wellbeing, and inclusivity in design, we can not only foster a sense of community but also ensure long-term commercial and environmental sustainability. Great to see Urbis leading the way in aligning social value with ESG targets for future generations. Looking forward to exploring these insights further!

Last week, Tonkin + Taylors’ Group Sustainability Programme Director – Erica Olesson, was a panellist at the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) Connect Breakfast, speaking on Modern Slavery in the Infrastructure Sector. We asked Erica for her key takeaways from the event and its relevance to our industry: - The construction sector has high risk of modern slavery, including from exploitation of migrant labour, building material supply chains, and the renewable energy supply chain. - Modern slavery is complex, so it can be overwhelming, but we just need to start. The first steps are identifying where the highest risks are for the organisation and starting to address those. - We need to find ways to work together as an industry, which will help us move faster and make meaningful change. In 2021, New Zealand joined the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada to express concern about forced and compulsory labour and call on the International Labour Organisation to create a strategy to bring attention to, and address, serious and persistent labour rights deficits around the world. One of Tonkin + Taylor’s key impacts is ‘supporting the built environment workforce’. Understanding and taking action on Modern Slavery is an important component of how we can make a real difference in our sector. Our modern slavery statement is on our website. It outlines our first steps and marks our commitment to action. We’ve found action has been supported by forming a cross-company working group, establishing an action plan with tangible immediate steps, and scheduled review periods to make sure we’re moving forward. We welcome opportunities to learn and share with others to help us all tackle this terrible human cost that is a part of the sectors we work in. https://lnkd.in/gbd34R8c

Today, on World Environmental Day, we are reminded of our responsibility to the environment. This year’s theme focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. Businesses depend on, and can impact our environment and its biodiversity, either directly through their activities or indirectly through their supply chains. It’s important that organisations continue to reflect upon and demonstrate how they are measuring, reporting, implementing, and positively growing their environmental and sustainability initiatives, to ensure a continuous improvement approach. At Bedford Consulting we are committed to embracing our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as an integral part of our identity and operations. This has always been a part of our DNA but as an organisation we always strive to understand what we can do better and look for opportunities where we can grow and improve our positive impact. We have set up a focused group of employees, with the purpose to engage and connect our CSR mission throughout our EMEA organisation. Over the course of this year, they have been working together to propose ways we can enhance our knowledge, engage our community, and structure our approach under a number of pillars (Environmental, Social, Governance and People) with the overarching theme of ‘Connecting Beyond.’ If you are interested in finding out more about our CSR initiatives, follow the link below. #ESG #CSR #Sustainability #corporatesocialresponsibility #planwithanaplan #anaplanpartner #bedfordconsulting
