On International Day for Women Human Rights Defenders, I honour their courage and indispensable role in advancing justice and peace. Women Human Rights Defenders face relentless threats, yet their leadership is essential to breaking cycles of violence and instability. Governments must act: protect their safety, amplify their leadership, and ensure robust funding for their work. Their work is not optional - it is critical. Without their voices and leadership, there can be no lasting equality or peace. We need decisive action for their future and the future of human rights. #WHRD #16Days

Let’s be real: staying silent can feel safe. Speaking up? That takes vulnerability. But here’s the thing—your voice has the power to change not just your life but the lives of others. Whether it’s calling out inequality at work, advocating for someone in need, or simply sharing your story, every time you use your voice, you make the world a little better. 💡 Just think: When was the last time you stood up for yourself or someone else? How did it feel? 🛠️ Resource: Explore LEAF Canada, an organization that uses legal advocacy to protect women’s equality rights. They’re doing the work so women across the country can speak up and be heard. 🌟 1% more: Today, amplify someone who’s doing meaningful work—whether it’s a colleague, a friend, or a woman-led initiative you admire. #WomenSupportingWomen #SpeakUp #UseYourVoice

This Human Rights Day, remember that Women's Rights ARE Human Rights. 76 years ago, on December 10th, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted, enshrining 30 basic rights for every human being. These include the right to live free from violence and discrimination; to be educated; to have access to health, justice & freedom of movement; to own property; to vote; and to earn a fair, equal wage. Yet, around the world, women are still denied these rights simply because of their gender. Our humanity and progress is stunted by the rights violations impacting women not just in #Afghanistan, but across the globe. At Women for Afghan Women (WAW), we advocate for women's rights because our collective dignity of life, economic well-being, social welfare, and stability depends on women's equal rights. The theme for International Human Rights Day 2024 is “Our rights, our future, right now.” The women you support through our work have not given up on their rights. Help ensure women's equal rights become our future, right now. Support our work with Afghan and immigrant women and girls. https://ow.ly/SKFf50UnUZs #HumanRightsDay #WomensRights #HumanRights #Equality #SupportWomen #WAW #AfghanWomen

Stop arms transfers when they may be used to commit acts of gender-based violence. 4. Defend women’s human rights. 5. Advance reproductive justice. 6. Insist on women at the table. 7. Support principled humanitarian action. 8. Demand justice and accountability. 9. Stand with feminist movements. 10. Fund peace, not war.
