I am thrilled to reunite with my podcast crew after some time away! In our latest episode, we delve into a critical and urgent topic: femicide, a severe form of gender-based violence. This discussion is crucial, not only because it highlights the widespread nature of this issue—from Kenya to Brazil and beyond—but also because it underscores the cultural underpinnings, such as machismo, that contribute to these atrocities. By addressing the negative responses and attitudes towards women, we aim to shed light on this horrendous violation of human rights. It's a reminder that global efforts and stronger legal frameworks are essential to protect human rights universally. Let's stand together for respect and justice. #Podcasting #HumanRights #EndFemicide #GenderBasedViolence #GlobalJustice #Machismo #LegalReform

What are the specific examples of structural violence that affect Nigerian women in politics? Specific Examples of Structural Violence Affecting Nigerian Women in Politics I offer several specific examples that demonstrate how structural violence impedes the participation and representation of Nigerian women in the political sphere. These examples showcase how deeply entrenched inequalities and systemic biases create a hostile environment for women seeking to engage in politics, reinforcing their marginalization and undermining their capacity to exercise their political rights. #genderequity, #genderequality,#Democracy, #genderandpolitics, #civilrights, #women, #Genderequity, #GenderEquality, #WomensRights, #structuralviolence, #VAWG, #womenspoliticalparticipation,#GBV,#WomensHumanRights. https://lnkd.in/eNKUY5pm

NWC welcomes this implementation plan for the government's #ZeroTolerance Strategy on Domestic, Sexual and Gender Based Violence In December 2023 the National Observatory on Violence Against Women published a Monitoring Report of the #ZeroToleranceStrategy and we're pleased to see that many of our recommendations were included, such as: ✅ intersectional approach to the protection of vulnerable groups ✅the development of KPIs to track and measure progress of the strategy ✅need to establish governance, oversight and co-design structures with civil society organisations It's also good to see that government plan to incorporate our recommendations around centering the experiences of survivors at the intersection of family courts, criminal justice and child welfare proceedings Lastly, we're pleased with the planned actions to end prostitution and human trafficking, including a communications strategy regarding prostitution and its impact on wider gender equality, as well as the pilot accommodation centre for victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation Department of Justice Stephanie O'Keefe Orla O'Connor https://lnkd.in/edbeY6Mr
